About The Position

AECOM is seeking an experienced Rail Structural Engineer to support a wide range of public infrastructure and building projects throughout the Atlanta, Georgia area. This role will involve the planning, analysis, design, and inspection of structural systems for projects such as transportation infrastructure, municipal facilities, and other public works. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in structural engineering, experience working with relevant design codes and standards, and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in engineering or related field plus 4 years of related experience and or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Experience in construction related quality management experience.
  • US Citizenship is required due to nature of work

Nice To Haves

  • ASQ CQA Certification is preferable
  • Rail industry experience
  • Experience in tunnel, underground, or heavy civil infrastructure quality management
  • Experience with on-site and office integrated data gathering and documenting of reports, checklists and issuance of Deficiency/ Nonconformance reports
  • Hands‑on field quality experience in geotechnical, structural, waterproofing, concrete, and MEP systems typical of tunnel environments

Responsibilities

  • Performs specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer
  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures
  • Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests
  • Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments
  • Identifies discrepancies in results and recommends corrective actions
  • Provides guidance and mentoring to entry-level engineers on structural design principles and methodologies
  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision
  • Independently performs all tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works
  • Conducts structural analysis and modeling using industry-standard software and CAD tools to evaluate rail infrastructure designs
  • Verifies compliance with applicable rail industry standards, safety regulations, and design codes throughout the engineering process
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams including project managers, civil engineers, and construction specialists to ensure design feasibility and constructability
  • Prepares comprehensive technical documentation, design reports, and calculations to support project deliverables and regulatory submissions
  • Performs site inspections and field verification activities to assess existing rail structures and validate design assumptions
  • Optimizes structural designs for cost-effectiveness and performance while maintaining safety and quality standards
