About The Position

Michael Baker is seeking an experienced Rail Public Projects Construction Specialist to support local rail and transit infrastructure projects. The role involves providing on-site construction support, including oversight of daily operations, contractor management, project reporting, and client coordination. The specialist will ensure rail construction activities comply with approved plans, specifications, railroad standards, and regulatory requirements. This position serves as a key field representative and liaison among railroad and transit agencies and the project delivery team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field OR a combination of applicable work experience and education.
  • 5-10 years of related experience on civil construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, contract administration, and public agency requirements.
  • Proficiency with use of project management technology platforms.
  • Evaluation and maintenance of construction documents – drawings, specifications, materials testing reports and supporting documentation.
  • Ability to visit work sites, dialogue with field staff, gather data and report findings to supervisors.
  • Excellent English language skills both written and verbal.
  • Employees in this classification will be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned to such duties will be required to possess a valid driver’s license or obtain said license following employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Class I Railroads (e.g., CSX, NS, UP, BNSF, CPKC, CN) and/or local transit agencies preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily construction activities to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with contract requirements.
  • Serve as a point of contact with owners, contractors, inspectors, and project stakeholders.
  • Perform day-to-day site inspections on multiple projects.
  • Maintain awareness of project schedules and safety compliance per contract requirements.
  • Conduct progress meetings and prepare project documentation, reports, and correspondence.
  • Identify risks and proactively resolve construction challenges to minimize delays and cost impacts.
  • Support project closeout activities, including punch lists, final inspections, and documentation.
