About The Position

This is a full-time, exempt position within the ADM Fertilizer division, reporting to the Logistics Manager. The role involves managing and tracking all fertilizer rail activity, coordinating daily rail operations, and collaborating with various teams to ensure logistics align with business needs. The specialist will monitor freight movements, optimize freight costs, ensure compliance with regulations, and maintain accurate records. The position also contributes to forecasting shipment volumes, aligning rail capacity, and partnering with ADM terminals for efficient rail car handling. Process improvement initiatives and developing strong counterparty relationships are also key aspects of this role. The specialist will provide shipping documents, communicate with carriers, and develop successful supply plans, while also assisting the logistics team as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and track all fertilizer rail activity within ADM Fertilizer.
  • Coordinate daily rail operations, including scheduling, shipment tracking and issue resolution.
  • Collaborate with the supply chain, procurement, commercial and operations team to ensure alignment of logistics and business needs.
  • Monitor and document freight movements using internal and carrier platforms.
  • Leverage freight economics between various supply points and rail lines to optimize freight cost savings.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable transportation regulations, customs requirements, safety protocols, and internal procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to rail logistics activities.
  • Assist in forecasting shipment volumes and aligning rail capacity with commercial needs.
  • Review all purchase/sales contracts to ensure optimal service levels and correct execution.
  • Partner with ADM terminals to ensure timely arrival and discharge of rail cars to promote efficiencies and minimize subsequent disruptions.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives within the rail freight function.
  • Develop strong counterparty relationships with those involved in producing and distributing fertilizer to further add bottom line value.
  • Provide shipping and product specification documents to destinations and customers.
  • Communicate often with Class 1 carriers as well as shortline railroads.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of all parameters and factors to develop a successful supply plan.
  • Assist logistics team in other areas as needed.
