About The Position

The Radiation Therapist Aide serves as an important member of the oncology care team by helping ensure patients are prepared for treatment procedures while maintaining patient confidentiality, safety standards, and excellent customer service. This position is responsible for (but not limited to) treatment room preparation and turnaround, assisting on-treatment patients, coordinating schedules & transportation, stocking supplies, maintaining cleanliness and organization of clinical areas, and assisting with non-clinical duties to support workflow and patient comfort. The role requires strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, the ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment, and sensitivity to the needs of oncology patients and their families.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • At least two years of full-time medical care.
  • Function effectively and multi-task in a fast-paced medical environment.
  • Possess exceptional inter-personal skills in order to connect with patients, as well as successfully interact with colleagues, physicians, and staff.
  • Work relatively independently on prioritizing job responsibilities and managing patient flow through the clinic.
  • Attention to detail and demonstration of follow through.
  • Demonstrate skill in the use of medical databases and computers.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and turnaround of both linear accelerator treatment rooms (plus CT and Orthovoltage rooms as needed) to reduce delays and maintain efficiency.
  • Assist therapists with patient positioning preparation under direct supervision.
  • Escort patients to/from treatment and waiting rooms.
  • Upload documentation/photographs from procedures as needed by therapy team.
  • Prepare charts, labels, or treatment-related paperwork as directed.
  • Prepare and cut electron blocks.
  • Assist in morning QA procedures with measurements reviewed by supervisor or physicist.
  • Schedule Nurse Teaches, CT Simulation, and transportation for upcoming patients and coordinate with other hospital departments when needed.
  • Schedule upcoming on-treatment patients.
  • Manage treatment machine schedules as instructed by supervisor.
  • Review daily and weekly billing procedures.
  • Assist with clinic upkeep, supply ordering/inventory, and ensuring linen is stocked throughout all treatment rooms.
  • Answer phones in a clear and professional manner. Return phone calls promptly.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and efficient clinical environment.
  • Assist other team members in Rad Oncology if needed.
