Under the direction of the Radiology Director and Manager, this role produces quality diagnostic medical radiographs, including OR, Flouro, Dexa, or EOS, to ensure proper diagnosis and quality patient care. The technologist demonstrates the skills to produce quality radiographs by using appropriate exposure techniques, proper use of markers, and documenting pertinent patient information. They perform OR/Surgery cases using C-arms and portable machines efficiently, and supervise and teach Radiology students. Communication of technical information is key, as is responding to changes in workload. The role also involves observing established departmental policies, safety, environmental, and infection control standards, maintaining a clean work area, adhering to safety and infection control policies, reporting faulty equipment, and using protective equipment as needed. Radiation safety for patients, self, and co-workers is paramount, including wearing a radiation dosimetry badge daily. The technologist attends departmental in-services and meetings, and performs other duties as assigned by supervisors, demonstrating cooperation, professionalism, initiative, and enthusiasm. They practice according to safety and infection control policies, including universal precautions and proper disposal of hazardous wastes, maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment, reporting risk management concerns, and completing all annual mandatory training. Patient identification is critical, using armbands or two unique identifiers. The role requires working in a constant state of alertness and safe manner. Participation in continuing education is necessary to maintain ASRT standards. Service excellence is expected, following Target 100 Standards, demonstrating respect and compassion, following confidentiality policies, recognizing diverse needs, working collaboratively, and following HIPAA guidelines. Quality Improvement is incorporated into daily work, reviewing QI, QA, & QC data and providing input to management. The technologist uses the Hospital/Radiology Information system according to policy, entering information correctly and timely, training co-workers as needed, moving completed exams to taken status promptly, and checking the internal MOX email system. Finally, they provide age-appropriate care to school-age children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics, demonstrating knowledge and skills in normal growth and development, assessing and interpreting age-specific data, and utilizing age-specific communication skills.
