About The Position

Performs diagnostic radiographic procedures adhering to the principle of radiation protection, according to local, state and federal standards. This role involves properly identifying patients and exams, performing diagnostic radiographic services with utmost care, and evaluating technical quality. The technologist is responsible for the technical continuity of care, educating patients on radiological procedures, and demonstrating competency in relevant RIS/HIS modules. They assist in data collection for the Radiology Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement program, ensure assigned areas are stocked with necessary equipment and supplies, and accurately adhere to downtime procedures. Maintaining professional development through inservices and continuing education is crucial. The role includes providing patients with educational information about their examinations, ensuring annual peer review of films meets department standards, and being knowledgeable about patient conditions and histories pertinent to proposed examinations. Accountability extends to the quality of digital images sent to PACS, verifying correct patient selection from worklists, and ensuring the accuracy of Medical Record information. The technologist is responsible for contributing to the department's success in achieving hospital-designated Press Ganey mean scores, providing patient education, and distributing personalized business cards. Apology cards are to be sent or given to patients when expectations are not met. Additional duties include assisting with secretarial and file room tasks, maintaining accurate patient records, assisting in other areas as needed, and helping with lifting and transporting patients. The role also involves caring for patient needs within the department, stocking and managing inventory of Radiology Rooms, completing Event Report Forms, and ordering patient exams. Notifying the RN of any patient problems or reactions is also a responsibility.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an ARRT recognized education program, or ARRT registered, or ARRT registry eligible.
  • Must pass registry within 1 year of hire date.
  • NJ staff must have current New Jersey State Radiologic Technologist License (with NJ Dept. of Environmental Protection) and must be registered before date of hire.
  • Experience as a radiologic technologist preferred, and ongoing training in department procedures.
  • Must rotate through all areas of diagnostic radiology.
  • Current BLS certification required within three months of hire.
  • History of computer usage experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Properly identifies patient and exam and performs diagnostic radiographic services on patients with the maximum amount of care, while evaluating the technical quality.

  • Accurately adheres to downtime procedures to assure appropriate information is available resulting in excellent continuity of care for patients.
  • Maintains responsibility for own professional development through active participation in inservices and/or continuing education programs.
  • Provides educational information to the patient regarding their examination.
  • Annual peer review of films meets department standards.
  • Knowledgeable regarding patient condition, history and appropriate background and information pertinent to proposed examination.
  • Accountable for quality of digital images sent to PACS.
  • Verify correct patient is selected from worklist, ensures accuracy of Medical Record information prior to being sent to PACS.
  • Responsible for the success of the department to achieve hospital designated Press Ganey mean score.
  • Every patient should receive patient education and your personalized business card.
  • Apology cards should be sent or given to all patients when we do not meet their expectations.
  • Assists with secretarial and file room duties when necessary, maintaining accurate patient records.
  • Assists in other areas as needed.
  • Assists in lifting and transporting patients when necessary.
  • Care for patient’s needs while in the department.
  • Stocks and supplies inventory of Radiology Rooms.
  • Completes Event Report Forms and/or notifies Patient Safety Hotline according to hospital guidelines.
  • Order entry of patient exams.
  • Notifies RN of any patient problem or reaction.
