About The Position

The Radiology Technologist will be responsible for performing diagnostic imaging procedures, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining accurate records. This full-time position involves rotating holidays, weekends, and call, primarily with afternoon shifts but occasional midnight shifts. The role requires a strong understanding of x-ray equipment, radiation safety protocols, and patient care across all age groups.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved radiology technology school.
  • General knowledge of x-ray equipment, including portables.
  • IDNS registry eligible.
  • CPR certified.
  • Able to adjust to flexible hours.
  • Able to lift, push, pull 50 lbs. with assistance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to recognize needs and behaviors of all age groups, modifying approach and communication skills as necessary.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance (for patient lifts over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist, patient handling equipment is expected to be used with at least one other associate).

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and examine requisitions for each exam to understand the procedure requested, patient's condition, and any special notes.
  • Question patients before procedures to gather pertinent history and document it on the requisition.
  • Screen and document possible pregnancy on all female patients of child-bearing age.
  • Document patient history, including pregnancy status with time and initials.
  • Understand patient needs and respond accordingly.
  • Introduce self and explain procedures to every patient, reassuring them and attempting to obtain cooperation while reducing anxiety.
  • Select proper film and place proper markers on cassettes.
  • Use lead gonadal shields or provide protective apparel and use collimation to protect unaffected parts of the body.
  • Position x-ray equipment at the proper distance and angle from the patient's body to present a clear, well-defined view.
  • Direct the central ray on the specified area to consistently produce radiographs of good diagnostic quality.
  • Demonstrate competence in required positioning of anatomy and the ability to adapt to varying patient conditions.
  • Review the patient's condition and determine the proper exposure factor for each radiograph.
  • Assist others as requested, such as medical assistants or front desk staff.
  • Use time to the department's advantage and volunteer for additional work.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of institutional policies regarding patient care, fire, safety, infection control, and QI plan.
  • Review Department manuals and sign-off supplements.
  • Maintain annual CPR certification.
  • Operate all equipment in a safe manner, according to Hospital and Department policies and procedures.
  • Use Universal Precautions to protect self from bodily fluid exposure.
  • Ensure IDNS and ARRT licensure remain current.
  • Report patient safety events and near misses in a timely fashion.
  • Adhere to all behavioral and procedural patient safety practices.
  • Promote a culture of safety by identifying threats to patient safety and intervening to prevent patient harm.
  • Communicate openly and promote teamwork.
  • Report intimidating behavior and other threats to patient safety promptly.
