About The Position

Under minimal supervision, performs basic to complex diagnostic radiographic procedures, as requested by a licensed physician. Exercises professional judgment in providing health care services, applying x-ray energy, to assist in diagnosis or treatment of patients in all age groups from newborn to elderly. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Produces high quality diagnostic radiographs, by selecting and operating appropriate radiographic equipment, and advanced diagnostic procedures
  • Practices aseptic techniques as necessary, understands methods of venipuncture and other sterile techniques, in agreement with state statues and./or where institutional policy permits, prepares, identifies and/or administers contrast media as prescribed by a licensed practitioner
  • Rotates through advanced areas of diagnostic radiology to include procedures in arthrography, Evaluates images for technical quality, assuring proper identification and procedure is recorded
  • Assists practitioner with fluoroscopy, arthrography
  • Provides communication to patient for instructions and history in order to obtain desired results, gain cooperation and minimize anxiety
  • Assumes responsibility for provision of physical safety and psychological needs of the patient during procedures
  • Positions patients to best demonstrate anatomical areas of interest as requested, respecting patients’ ability, comfort and safety. Checks to ask about pregnancy and LMP
  • Implements protective measures to prevent patient injury due to thermal. Electrical, mechanical, laser, chemical and radiation sources
  • Provides practical instruction, evaluation and precepting for students and/or other healthcare professionals
  • Assumes responsibility for assigned areas, quality control of equipment and reports equipment malfunction
  • Assures environment of working area, equipment and accessories are kept neat and clean
  • Initiates anecdotal, incident, contrast agent variance and accident reports in a timely manner
  • Performs related duties such as transporting patients, film processing and film filing as needed
  • Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively
  • Maintains safe environment
  • Addresses patient population-specific needs
