About The Position

The Radiologic Technologist I performs radiographic procedures with minimal supervision in a safe, accurate and timely manner which are necessary to allow the radiologist and/or physician to make a diagnosis. Performs a variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgement, ingenuity and initiative and maintains quality consistent with established technical standards under the direction of the Chief Technologist, Chief of Radiology, Radiation Safety Officer and the Director of Radiology and Cardiology Services.

Requirements

Graduate of a formal Radiography Program accredited by a mechanism acceptable to the ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists).
Current Massachusetts Radiologic Technologist License: Category Radiography
Current ARRT registration (within 1 year of licensure)
Current CEU credits, documenting compliance with CEU requirements
BLS/CPR Certification required.
Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
Ability to rely on experience, judgment and time management skills to plan and accomplish goals.
Positive, team oriented attitude and a professional appearance.
Employees will be oriented to and required to understand and to follow the universal precautions for infection control.

Nice To Haves

1-4 years of Radiologic Technologist work experience preferred.
New graduates considered based on strong clinical references.
Experience with Meditech preferred.

Responsibilities

Performs procedures utilizing various Radiographic equipment with minimum supervision.
Responsible for all technical aspects of the exam, including setting up equipment and using proper technical factors.
Operates various types of radiographic equipment including general radiology equipment, fluoroscopy rooms, portable X-ray machines and C-Arm units.
Follows requisition to provide the proper study for patients, ensuring exams match patient's condition and/or history.
Completes requisitions, questionnaires and gathers necessary patient information.
Performs appropriate studies as determined through established imaging standards protocol.
Prepares patients for radiologic exams by properly positioning patients, utilizing appropriate immobilization devices, and adjusting equipment controls.
Ensures appropriate fluoroscopy exam/procedure set up and assists physicians in administering contrast media.
Works through radiologist requirements to provide appropriate views and films, and provides additional views and variations of techniques as required.
Completes procedures in a timely fashion while providing the highest quality studies, reviewing films for correct positioning and overall film quality.
Provides service and care to patients of all ages and ailments/conditions, monitoring patient condition and involving nursing or physician when necessary.
Performs patient-centered customer service, ensuring HIPAA compliance and maintaining patient confidentiality.
Considers specific cultural beliefs and practices when caring for patients, utilizing interpreter services when needed.
Communicates with reception staff to minimize patient waiting and ensure patient satisfaction.
Acts as a resource for referring physicians, proceduralists and Radiologists.
Maintains work area in a clean and orderly fashion and adheres to all infection control standards.
Follows established hospital infection control and safety procedures.
Provides and ensures use of all required personal protective safety equipment.
Promotes a safe environment for all personnel.
Performs all duties in accordance with safety and other laws, rules, and regulations.
Follows ALARA standards to ensure protection from unnecessary radiation exposure.
Reports equipment malfunction immediately to the supervisor or Director of Radiology.
Stocks exam rooms with supplies and ensures adequate inventory.
Familiar with emergency equipment and supplies within the department and responds to emergencies.
Ensures the integrity of the Code Cart in the Radiology Department daily.
Works cooperatively with members of the healthcare delivery team and staff.
Handles frequent interruptions and adapts to changes in workload and work schedule.
Sets priorities and solves problems.
Responds quickly to emergency requests.
Collaborates, cooperates, and communicates with other health care providers to ensure quality and continuity of care.
Documents and reports all adverse events within Diagnostic Radiology.
Notifies the Director of Radiology and Cardiology Services of any situations that result in difficulty carrying out departmental procedures.
Assists during the orientation of new staff members.
Welcomes and supports new employees.
Works schedules as required, including on-call as needed.
Accommodates patient needs and staffing needs through flexibility in scheduling and timeliness of studies.
Maintains current state licensure and ARRT credentials.
Maintains continuing education credits on site.
Adheres to ethical standards for discipline.
Maintains active certification in BLS/Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
May be required to perform similar or related duties as necessary on an emergency basis or as designated by the department director or supervisor.
