About The Position

Produces radiographs of various anatomical parts for diagnostic purposes as directed by the Orthopedic Physician. This role involves verifying patient data, explaining procedures, selecting appropriate equipment, positioning patients, developing films, and maintaining equipment. Additionally, the technologist may perform duties of a medical assistant or secretary within the physician office setting to ensure efficient workflow, including checking patients in and out, assisting with rooming and preparing x-ray images, calling for authorizations, completing forms, and assisting with surgical scheduling as needed.

Requirements

  • Completion of a (JRCERT) accredited Radiologic Technology Program.
  • Related training/experience (preferably within the past five years).
  • Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, and sound judgment.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.
  • Current Registry with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association (CPR and AED) program.
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance

Responsibilities

  • Produces radiographs of various anatomical parts for diagnostic purposes as directed by the Orthopedic Physician.
  • Verifies pertinent data about the patient and procedure, including patient identification, physician order, and pregnancy status when appropriate.
  • Provides information to the patient about the procedure and verifies consent.
  • Analyzes information and determines optimal imaging parameters per diagnosis.
  • Selects appropriate shielding and immobilization devices.
  • Sets and adjusts radiographic equipment and positions patients to obtain diagnostic images.
  • Utilizes equipment to maximize images.
  • Develops films for review by the physician and maintains storage of developed films.
  • Documents accurate information about patient and exam, and accurately marks films with patient identifiers and markers.
  • Performs daily QC on radiographic equipment and assures adequate patient care and office supplies are maintained.
  • Performs other duties of a medical assistant and/or medical secretary on an as needed basis within a physician office setting.
  • Checks in patients by gathering appropriate demographic information and verification.
  • Assists physician/physician assistant/extended by rooming patients and prepares x-ray image for viewing.
  • Assists physician/physician assistant/extended as needed to ensure expedition of patient care.
  • Checks out patients by scheduling return appointments as necessary.
  • Calls for authorization of MRI and surgical procedures as needed.
  • May complete forms/faxes as necessary regarding patient treatment and follow-up.
  • May assist in surgical scheduling as needed.
