About The Position

Perform multiple duties that include noninvasive radiographic exams of various anatomical parts, collection of blood, urine, and stool specimens, perform a 12-lead electrocardiogram, and perform patient registration duties when applicable.

Requirements

  • Completion of a (JRCERT) accredited Radiologic Technology Program recognized by the ARRT.
  • Current registry with the ARRT
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association (CPR and AED) program.
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 with renewal

  • 1 year experience as a Radiologic Technologist.

Responsibilities

  • Performs accurate, skillful capillary and venipunctures to obtain adequate specimens needed for analysis.
  • Properly identify patients using the 2-identifier hospital policy and proper introduction of staff to the customer.
  • Review physician order(s) to ensure that proper tests are ordered and obtained.
  • Enter orders into Laboratory Information System correctly to ensure proper billing and reimbursements.
  • Prepare collection site using established techniques according to hospital standards, including hand hygiene and standard precautions.
  • Collects specimens needed for cultures, add cytology fixative to specimens, instructs customers in the proper collection of requested specimens.
  • Ensure that all specimens are properly labeled.
  • Demonstrates minimal redraws and performs in compliance with the redraw policy.
  • Assists in urine drug screen collections following established procedures.
  • Centrifuge specimens as needed and maintain proper storage of specimens until transported to Laboratory Services.
  • Remain knowledgeable and current on specimens sent to reference Lab for processing.
  • Recognize where Laboratory services should be provided according to the customers insurance.
  • Confirm information regarding the registration of these contracted Laboratory services is done correctly according to the testing ordered by the physician.
  • Follow established guidelines as to which testing can be conducted at Independence Health Laboratory Services and which must be resulted with Quest.
  • Gain access to the Quest website as needed for the requested blood testing requirements.
  • Ensure the specimens for contracted Laboratory services are labeled correctly and prepared properly for transport to the independent Laboratory.
  • Educate customers about where their requested blood collections will be resulted and address any of their concerns.
  • Obtains optimum images during radiographic exams and procedures.
  • Properly identify customers using the 2-identifier hospital policy and proper introduction of staff to customer.
  • Review ordering physician's x-ray exam request and place the order(s) into the Radiology Information System to ensure proper billing and reimbursement.
  • Escort the customer into the exam area, provide accurate explanations and instructions at an appropriate time and at a level the customer can understand.
  • Choose proper technique and positioning for requested x-ray exam(s) according to the established Imaging Services Protocols and use protective shielding devices according to established procedures.
  • Utilize and remain familiar with the CR/DR equipment to maximize image quality.
  • Send images to the PAC's system for interpretation by Radiologist.
  • Perform a 12 lead Electrocardiogram (ECG) for diagnosis by a physician.
  • Properly identify customers using the 2-identifier hospital policy and proper introduction of staff to customer.
  • Verify physician order and provide explanation at a level the customer can understand.
  • Enter correct order into the ECG Management System to ensure proper billing and reimbursements.
  • Demonstrate proper lead placement in appropriate anatomical areas for 12 lead ECG.
  • Demonstrates that all ECG tracings are accurate, properly identified and prepared for physician interpretation.
  • Acknowledges the completion of the EGG in the EGG Management System.
  • Transmits electronically stored information or manually send the ECG to the Cardiology Department for interpretation and permanent storage.
  • Document information about customer care, exams, and customer history in appropriate record areas.
  • Verify and enter correct orders into the various systems utilized by Laboratory and Imaging Services and the Cardiology Department.
  • Document appropriate history into the Imaging Services PAC's system including any previous exams for comparison.
  • Document chance of pregnancy for women of childbearing age and if shielding was provided to the customer in the appropriate section of the Imaging Services HIS/RIS system.
  • Scan the appropriate documents into the Imaging Services PAC's system to maintain proper documentation.
  • Complete an event reporting form for all events that arise not consistent with normal patient care.
  • Dispense Oral Contrast to customers in preparation for CT exams of the abdomen, pelvis, or abdomen/pelvis.
  • Properly identify the customer using the 2-identifier hospital policy and proper introduction of staff to customer.
  • View physician order for requested CT exam to ensure proper prep is given to the customer.
  • Complete the Oral/Rectal/Enteral Contrast Screening Questionnaire.
  • Inform the customer to bring the completed screening questionnaire and their physician order on the scheduled day of their CT appointment.
  • Contact the CT Department with any questions or contraindications when completing the screening questionnaire to ensure the proper prep for the CT exam requested.
  • Operates all equipment according to safety guidelines and reports any malfunction of equipment to appropriate departments.
  • Inform supervisor or lead of any equipment that is not working properly.
  • Perform daily QC on radiographic equipment and initiate service calls to appropriate vendor to ensure x-ray equipment is repaired in a timely fashion.
  • Initiate Maintenance, Bio Med, and Information Technology work orders when necessary to ensure hospital-related equipment is repaired promptly.
  • Maintains adequate supply of inventory, replenishes stock, and keeps the work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Utilize disinfecting towelettes on all hard, non-porous surfaces to prevent the spread of various infectious diseases.
  • Order stock and non-stock items according to the storeroom's designated delivery date to your site.
  • Order linen according to the hospital's designated delivery date to your site.
  • Assure adequate office supplies and patient care supplies are maintained but not overstocked.
  • Implements downtime procedures when necessary.
  • Coordinates rescheduling of customers during equipment downtime.
  • Initiates established downtime procedures during HIS, LIS, RIS and Pac’s downtime.
  • Attends department meetings or reviews meeting minutes.
  • Other duties as assigned.
