About The Position

The Radiology Technologist Assistant performs a wide variety of routine clerical, technical, and patient-related duties. This role supports the Diagnostic Imaging team by assisting with patient scheduling, coordinating procedures, preparing patients for exams, assisting during exams and procedures, and transporting patients. The incumbent works under the supervision of Radiology Technologists and is trained to use a variety of radiographic equipment, computers, and software systems. The Radiology Technologist Assistant may be assigned to various imaging sections and assist multiple radiology modalities and/or clinical services based on operational needs. This position requires the ability to resolve conflict, adapt to a fast-paced and constantly changing environment, and provide excellent patient care. The Technologist Assistant also supports the Lead Technologists and Director of Diagnostic Imaging with data collection, monitoring, reporting, and delegated duties.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic anatomy.
  • Basic knowledge of sterile techniques, universal precautions, OSHA standards, and radiation safety practices.
  • Self-motivated with a desire to increase knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong customer service and professional verbal/written communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate ethical and professional behavior at all times.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.
  • Ability to work independently using sound judgment and initiative.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with patients, families, healthcare professionals, and vendors.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Physical ability to lift, position, and transfer patients using beds/stretchers.
  • Ability to follow and provide directions as required.
  • Ability to adjust schedule and work overtime when needed.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to workflow changes and interruptions.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in healthcare or customer service.
  • CPR certification within three (3) months of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Student actively enrolled in and participating in a Radiologic Technology degree program.
  • Experience in a radiology-related field.
  • Experience using Meditech Information Systems.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes a positive patient/customer experience by exemplifying the principles of the Language of Caring in all interactions with patients, families, and coworkers.
  • Sets up and prepares rooms and equipment for clinical exams.
  • Assists with implementation of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Completes clerical duties including importing/copying records, logging exams, and updating patient status in the Meditech information system.
  • Assists Technologists with positioning, maneuvering, and completion of imaging exams.
  • Seeks guidance when needed and collaborates with Technologists and other staff.
  • Monitors and maintains Diagnostic Imaging equipment as directed.
  • Collaborates with Imaging staff to achieve department goals related to budget, clinical quality, and patient satisfaction.
  • Works with other departments to support hospital-wide and departmental goals.
  • Identifies opportunities for operational improvement and participates in implementation efforts.
  • Performs office duties including maintaining logs/records, answering phones, preparing QC/QA reports, and relaying information between team members.
  • Stocks rooms and supplies daily and reports low inventory to leadership.
  • Assists Imaging staff with compliance for TJC, IDPH, and annual IEMA surveys.
  • Performs scheduling and patient preparation for exams as directed.
  • Performs EKG testing as required.
  • Rotates through weekend, holiday, and on-call schedules as required.
  • Ensures pagers and in-house phones are operational and available at the start of shifts/on-call shifts.
  • Adheres to standards of care, standards of practice, and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Communicates clearly and professionally with coworkers daily.
  • Accepts and completes additional duties as assigned.
  • Must be flexible with scheduling, including additional hours, shift changes, and floating between campuses as needed.
