About The Position

The Radiology Technical Assistant provides general support to the Imaging Department at University of Washington Medical Center – Northwest. This role involves preparing patients for procedures, transporting patients, assisting technologists with patient transfers and positioning, aiding in the performance of exams, maintaining cleanliness and stock levels in exam rooms, and performing other general technical duties. The Radiology Department at UWMC-Northwest utilizes advanced diagnostic imaging technology and is staffed by board-certified radiologists with specialized training and expert imaging technologists committed to accurate and timely diagnosis.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent or equivalent.
  • Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on assigned unit/department.
  • CPR or BLS certification required, must be obtained within 90 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous exposure to the field of Radiology preferred.
  • 1 year patient care experience preferred.
  • Certification as a C.N.A in the State of Washington preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patient for diagnostic examination and assists technologist with limited procedures, under supervision.
  • Greets patient, escorts to exam room, prepares and informs patients of exam procedure, confirms patient identity and exam type, explains exam length, and introduces technologist.
  • Assists with transferring and positioning the patient safely and properly for examination, under the direct supervision of the technologist.
  • Operates imaging equipment for assigned procedures, under direct supervision of the technologist, according to departmental procedures.
  • Notifies supervising technologist immediately of equipment problems.
  • Assists technologist in processing images efficiently, both digital and hard copy.
  • Completes daily work in a timely fashion within exam time-window.
  • Transports patients, utilizing established patient transportation procedures and safety measures.
  • Maintains observation of patient during transport and notifies nurse immediately if patient experiences distress or health problems.
  • Maintains transport equipment; assures equipment is clean, in good working order, and prepared for transport use.
  • Lifts, positions, and transfers patients, using safe-lifting techniques and tools.
  • Uses RIS/PACS effectively to input/order/edit/cancel exams.
  • Accurately assists with data input (exam orders, patient data, patient charges, etc.) and required paperwork and records.
  • Effectively uses the computer and NWH software applications to access information.
  • Exhibits excellent customer service skills with patients, physician office staff, coworkers, management, vendors, etc.
  • Answers telephone using defined etiquette standards; transfers calls and takes messages.
  • Answers and troubleshoots questions and follows through on inquiries.
  • Relays information to technical staff as appropriate.
  • Assists in other areas (such as order entry, image library, scheduling, patient transport); works weekends, other shifts, holidays; and helps co-workers with workload and projects.
  • Sets up exam rooms, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are ready.
  • Inventories supplies and linens.
  • Restocks rooms as needed.
  • Cleans and tidies exam rooms, patient holding rooms, wait rooms, etc.
  • May assist with training new personnel, as assigned.
  • Attends staff meetings and required in-services.
  • Participates in departmental goals and performance improvement projects.
