About The Position

Radiology Technicians are responsible for performing high-quality radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures under the supervision of a qualified Physician for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. The technologist will conduct procedures according to department protocols and follow established radiation safety guidelines. The technologist provides direct patient care for all ages of patients. The technologist is to provide excellent service, treating every patient with respect and courtesy, and explaining the exam to the patient. The technologist must be able to work collaboratively with others, providing a positive work environment. The technologist is responsible for ensuring a safe environment for patients, fellow employees, and themselves.

Requirements

  • Vocational / Technical Degree in Radiologic Technology
  • Certified Radiography (R)(ARRT)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

Responsibilities

  • Perform radiologic and/or fluoroscopic procedures according to department protocols.
  • Identify the patient according to hospital policy.
  • Ensure the correct procedure is performed on the patient, referencing the medical record or physician orders.
  • Explain the exam/procedure to the patient and/or family members.
  • Set up the procedure room and/or equipment for the exam.
  • Ensure the exam is marked anatomically correct.
  • Quality assurance check the exam on PACS before it is released for interpretation.
  • Follow established radiation safety guidelines to protect the patient, co-workers, and oneself from unnecessary radiation.
  • Maintain knowledge of exposure rates and equipment, and the use of safety precautions such as gloves, shields, and badges.
  • Only radiate the area of interest when performing the exam on the patient.
  • Shield the patient's gonads, especially children and adults of childbearing age.
  • Limit repeat exposures to the patient by ensuring the equipment is set up correctly.
  • Maintain quality controls for scanner, power injector, and other equipment in accordance with manufacturer and regulatory guidelines.
  • Wear radiation monitoring badges at all times.
  • Wear protective equipment when in the radiation field (fluoroscopic exams and/or holding patients), including lead aprons, lead gloves, thyroid shields, and leaded glasses.
  • Stand behind the protective barrier when not needed in the radiation field.
  • Limit exposure by either limiting exposure time in the radiation field or increasing distance from the radiation source.
  • Ensure the safety of others during the exam by having them behind the lead barrier or wearing radiation protective equipment during an exposure.
  • Document and submit required information and data in a timely fashion.
  • Ensure documentation is tailored to expected readers/users.
  • Use correct terminology.
  • Conform to required style and format.
  • Clearly and accurately document designated processes, policies, products, service offerings, etc.
  • Demonstrate technical skill in using equipment appropriate for the role.

  • Attend staff meetings and complete mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time.
  • Demonstrate competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs.
  • For non-clinical areas, attend training and demonstrate usage of age-specific customer service skills.
  • Wear protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
