About The Position

Responsible for the operation of the equipment and for the performance of all procedures at a technical level that does not require direct supervision. This includes knowledge of imaging examinations and procedures that require the use of contrast mediums and/or radiopharmaceuticals, imaging equipment operation, radiation safety, patient transfers, positioning techniques, quality patient care, and the use of patient restraint devices. The role requires flexibility to work overtime and on-call duty as needed, a good understanding of age-specific developmental issues for all patient age groups, and open, accurate, and responsive communication. The individual must demonstrate ethical and professional conduct.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited radiology program or equivalent.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Current certification and registration from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Current license from the state of Texas.
  • BCLS Certification (may be obtained during training).
  • Proficient in primary area of the Radiology Department.
  • Proficient in proper patient positioning and ability to produce technically adequate images.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with the patient, the patient’s family and all medical personnel.
  • Moderate amount of lifting and positioning of patients and equipment.
  • Transportation of patients via cart or wheelchair.
  • Walking or standing for 80% of the time, sitting for 20% of the time.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, walk, and sit.
  • Ability to see small objects.
  • Good eye-hand coordination.
  • Ability to hear normal sounds with background noises.
  • Ability to concentrate on moderate detail with some interruption.
  • Ability to relate specific ideas generally, several at a time.
  • Ability to remember multiple tasks given at one time or over a period of time.
  • Ability to communicate in written work, using advanced writing skills.
  • Subject to electrical, radiation and biohazards.
  • Working under stressful conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment and perform procedures at a technical level without direct supervision.
  • Perform imaging examinations and procedures requiring contrast mediums and/or radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Operate imaging equipment and adhere to radiation safety protocols.
  • Perform patient transfers and positioning techniques.
  • Provide quality patient care and utilize patient restraint devices.
  • Understand and address age-specific developmental issues of patients.
  • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with patients, families, and medical personnel.
  • Demonstrate ethical and professional conduct.
  • Verify correct patient using armband and medical record number.
  • Review patient charts to verify physician's orders and make necessary corrections.
  • Explain procedures to patients and families and obtain consent forms.
  • Coordinate inpatient and outpatient procedures to minimize waiting times and prioritize exams.
  • Ensure proper patient positioning for quality images.
  • Make knowledge-based adjustments to imaging procedures, equipment, and contrast mediums.
  • Practice proper radiation safety and use of shielding devices.
  • Perform procedures according to established protocols.
  • Annotate patient information on images.
  • Review examinations for technical and diagnostic accuracy.
  • Administer contrast mediums as needed.
  • Present relevant information and completed exams to the radiologist.
  • Record and track procedures.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of ancillary equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Perform other necessary tasks and responsibilities.
