About The Position

Responsible for the operation of the equipment and for the performance of all procedures at a technical level that does not require direct supervision. This role requires knowledge of imaging examinations and procedures that involve contrast mediums and/or radiopharmaceuticals, as well as knowledge of imaging equipment operation and radiation safety. The position also requires knowledge of patient transfers and positioning techniques, and the use of patient restraint devices. Flexibility to work overtime and on-call duty is necessary. The individual must display a good understanding of age-specific developmental issues for all age groups, communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and demonstrate ethical and professional conduct.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited radiology program or equivalent.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Current registration from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Certification from the state of Texas.
  • Certification from the American Society of Orthopedic Professionals.
  • Proficient in primary area of the Radiology Department.
  • Proficient in proper patient positioning and ability to produce technically adequate images.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with the patient, the patient’s family and all medical personnel.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, walk, and sit.
  • Ability to see small objects, have good eye-hand coordination, and hear normal sounds with background noises.
  • Ability to concentrate on moderate detail with some interruption.
  • Ability to relate specific ideas generally, several at a time and remember multiple tasks given at one time or over a period of time.
  • Ability to communicate in written work, using advanced writing skills.
  • Subject to electrical, radiation and biohazards.
  • Working under stressful conditions and working irregular hours.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and/or bodily fluids.

Responsibilities

  • Operates equipment and performs procedures at a technical level without direct supervision.
  • Performs imaging examinations and procedures using contrast mediums and/or radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Operates imaging equipment and adheres to radiation safety protocols.
  • Performs patient transfers and positioning techniques.
  • Provides quality patient care and utilizes patient restraint devices.
  • Addresses age-specific developmental issues of patients across all age groups.
  • Communicates effectively, orally and in writing, with patients, families, and medical personnel.
  • Demonstrates ethical and professional conduct.
  • Verifies correct patient identification and physician's orders.
  • Explains procedures to patients and families and obtains necessary consent.
  • Coordinates inpatient and outpatient procedures to minimize waiting times and prioritize exams.
  • Ensures proper patient positioning for high-quality images.
  • Makes knowledge-based adjustments to imaging procedures, equipment, and contrast mediums/radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Practices proper radiation safety and uses all related equipment and shielding devices.
  • Performs all procedures according to established protocols, annotates images, and reviews examinations for accuracy.
  • Administers contrast mediums as needed and presents relevant information to the radiologist.
  • Records and tracks procedures.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of ancillary equipment and maintains accurate records.
  • Performs application and adjustment of immobilization devices (casting, bracing, splinting).
  • Performs removal of immobilization devices upon physician request.
  • Performs wound care responsibilities necessary for diagnostic examinations.
  • Performs other necessary tasks and responsibilities.
