About The Position

Be a part of a world-class academic health-care system at University of Chicago Medicine as a Radiology Sonographer I in the Radiology Department. Here, you will perform Ultrasound and related procedures to demonstrate sectional anatomic images for interpretation by or at the request of a licensed practitioner. The Sonographer will provide appropriate patient care and recognize patient’s conditions essential for successful completion of the imaging procedures. This position requires direct patient contact, excellent communication skills, including participation in constructive feedback, and the ability to work with initiative and accuracy. Responsibilities include but are not limited to imaging, patient education, data collection and maintaining ACR accreditation. The services are provided in accordance with industry standards, department protocols, and hospital policies and procedures. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalency required
  • Satisfactory completion of an Ultrasound training program through a CAAHEP approved school
  • Ultrasound experience in abdominal, small parts and basic vascular experience necessary
  • ARDMS registry completion in Abdominal Imaging or completion within one year of hire
  • Expectation of ARDMS RVT credentials within two years of hire and advancement to Sonographer, II
  • Effective communication skills and excellent patient care skills required
  • Handle high pressure, fast paced work environment
  • Excellent teamwork
  • Ability to work independently on call within 1 year of hire
  • CPR and BLS training required

Nice To Haves

  • Pediatric and advanced vascular preferred but not mandatory; ability to learn upon hire

Responsibilities

  • Complete competencies in all basic abdominal and pediatric exams
  • Performs advanced imaging procedures with assistance when necessary
  • Maintain a quality review score at or above 85%
  • Participate and actively assist Physician/PA/APN with performance of biopsy procedures
  • Perform portable and ED studies independently for all basic ultrasound exams, adult and pediatric
  • Perform portable advanced studies with assistance when necessary
  • Perform duties with minimal oversite from department Lead, Imaging Technical Coordinator or Manager; can perform duties independently
  • Utilizes EPIC independently to begin exams, end exams, add supply charges, verify orders, change orders as necessary and review patient chart for pertinent history
  • Properly utilize PACS for image presentation
  • Review completed studies with radiologist for approval
  • Participate in the on-call rotation
  • Actively participates in exam quality assurance by performing exams following department protocols as directed by the department Radiologist, Imaging Center Manager or Imaging Team Lead.
  • Recognizes, reports, and documents malfunctions of technical equipment.
  • Maintains physical work environment to be in compliance with regulatory certifying agencies.
  • Ability to participate in the on-call rotation within 1 year of hire
