About The Position

This role is responsible for repairing, calibrating, and maintaining radiologic equipment and associated instrumentation used in health care delivery. The technician will also inspect and install medical and related technical equipment, assist medical and technical staff in the operation or use of equipment, and aid in the specification and selection of new equipment. Requirements

  • Associates degree in electronic technology, technical school, or military specialized training.
  • Five years recent experience in electronics repair and maintenance, at least three of which must have been servicing radiologic medical equipment.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
  • Knowledge of electronic theory, technology, and test equipment.
  • Knowledge of radiologic theory and technology.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems and tools.
  • Knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Ability to analyze electronic, electromechanical, and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to isolate, test, and replace defective parts.
  • Ability to make operational adjustments to radiologic equipment.
  • Ability to perform preventative maintenance inspections.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records of repairs, calibration, and tests.
  • Ability to run diagnostic programs in pinpointing certain malfunctions.
  • Ability to maintain professional growth and development.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally.
  • Skill in testing electronic, radiologic, and mechanical equipment.
  • Skill in manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and color vision.

Responsibilities

  • Repairs, calibrates, and maintains radiologic equipment, such as x-ray, fluoroscopy, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, and computed tomography, and associated instrumentation, such as patient monitors, cine, and film changers.
  • Performs preventative maintenance inspections according to manufacturer's or departmental procedures.
  • Analyzes systems and equipment for causes of failure, and isolates, tests, and replaces defective parts.
  • Uses departmental computer and paper systems to maintain equipment records, and document failures, repairs, and tests.
  • Identifies potential hazards with medical devices during the course of service activity.
  • Assists in the investigation of incidents involving radiologic equipment.
  • Formulates and modifies existing procedures as necessary to meet specific needs in detecting and preventing major malfunctions.
  • Evaluates vendor equipment repairs and projects.
  • Deals with manufacturers on repair work and parts needed for equipment maintenance.
  • Instructs user department staff concerning use and operation of radiologic equipment.
  • Attends staff meetings and participates in other meetings, seminars, workshops, and conferences as required.
  • Assists other technicians in troubleshooting difficult problems, sharing troubleshooting techniques and explaining equipment circuitry and operation.
  • Assists user department managers in long range equipment planning.
  • Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices.
  • Reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
