About The Position

The Radiology Scheduler is responsible for greeting, instructing, and scheduling patients in an efficient and timely manner, aiming to provide patients with more than they expect. This role involves managing patient appointments, handling inquiries, and maintaining patient information accurately.

Requirements

  • Up to six months of similar or related experience.
  • Equivalent to a high school education.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and organize work.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to react calmly to emergency situations.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply established guidelines, yet be flexible to meet the individual needs of the patient.
  • Ability to work with general supervision, structuring own work patterns within the general outline, referring unusual situations or problems to the supervisor.
  • Ability to work effectively during periods of stress resulting from patient flow and office demands.
  • Skills in operating a computer.
  • Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, staff, and the public.
  • Skills in recognizing and responding to patients' needs.
  • Manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination for operation and repair of all departmental equipment.
  • Lifts and carries items weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
  • Work may be repetitious at times.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules patients either by phone or in person in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner.
  • Reschedules or cancels appointments at the patient's or doctor's request.
  • Makes a note in the patient's chart if a patient cancels, indicating the reason if possible.
  • Verifies and updates necessary patient information or transfers patient to the appropriate source for updating information.
  • Greets patients and the public in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner.
  • Answers the telephone, takes messages, and provides information in a professional manner.
  • Determines if patients are in the correct area and instructs them if they are not.
  • Asks required Medicare/insurance questions and has the patient sign the appropriate form when necessary.
  • Logs all films/CD's coming into the Clinic into the RIS system and directs them to the appropriate area.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Keeps work area clean and stocked with forms and all necessary supplies.
