The Radiology Extern assists with the performance of diagnostic radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures performed in the Radiology Department under the direct supervision of a State of Wisconsin licensed radiographer. Key Accountabilities Demonstrates working knowledge of equipment and safety practices in the areas of main department, interventional radiology, surgery, emergency department and outpatient surgery. Demonstrates knowledge and skills needed to perform radiology procedures per protocol and adjusts techniques according to patient needs, i.e., critical or emergency under the direct supervision of a State of Wisconsin licensed radiographer. Applies critical thinking skills and ensures order accuracy when triaging and prioritizing patients. Completes documentation on time and accurately in accordance with department policy or procedure including proper image management and accurate documentation in electronic medical record under the direct supervision of a State of Wisconsin licensed radiographer. Practices safety at all times, which includes adhering to ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) principles for proper radiation safety for team members and patients using mobilization and immobilization devices, following safe patient handling practices, following infection prevention practices (proper personal protective equipment), and following hand hygiene to comply with government agencies or other regulatory bodies.
