Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Radiologist Assistant (RA) program.
  • ARRT certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Registered Radiologist Assistant (R.R.A) certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) within one (1) year as a condition of continued employment in this job classification.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patients.
  • Obtain/document a clinical history, physical exam, consent for diagnostic imaging exam, and image-guided procedures from the patient or medical record.
  • Document diagnostic imaging exams and image-guided procedures in the medical record.
  • Perform pre-procedure and post-procedure evaluations of patients undergoing diagnostic imaging exams and image-guided procedures.
  • Take responsibility for patient assessment, patient management, and patient education for diagnostic imaging exams and image-guided procedures.
  • Nominate orders in the medical record.
  • Communicate radiology results to the appropriate representative on the patient care team.
  • Participate in patient rounds.
  • Act as a liaison between the supervising physician and ancillary staff to ensure the quality of patient care.
  • Remove lines and catheters.
  • Assist with the planning of Y90 procedures.
  • Perform multi-planar and 3D reconstructions and other image analysis techniques.
  • Perform fluoroscopic diagnostic imaging exams.
  • Review patient history and indication prior to performing the exam.
  • Evaluate image quality, make initial image observations, and communicate observations to the supervising radiologists.
  • Complete minor interventional radiology procedures such as PICC placement, Thoracentesis, Paracentesis, Lumbar Puncture, and Myelograms independent of the attending physician.
  • Review patient history, obtain consent, perform a time-out, and complete the procedure as expected.
  • Assist the radiologist with major invasive image-guided procedures.
  • May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.
