About The Position

Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Radiological Technologist - Clinical Educator/Instructor to join the Computed Tomography team at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver, BC. This role provides modality-specific medical imaging (MI) and interdisciplinary clinical education and clinical instruction. The position demonstrates expertise and leadership in radiology technology practice and performs technical functions as required. The Clinical Educator provides clinical/practice support (i.e. Computed Tomography, General Procedures, Mammography or Interventional), formal training and education to designated staff. They plan, develop, implement and evaluate site education programs to support access and flow and to meet the needs of the technologists at the designated site. The Clinical Educator works under the direction of the Manager, Site Coordinator, and/or Supervisor to establish and/or develop the educational/training priorities for the designated program by collaborating with the Regional Clinical Education team, Regional Educator for Radiology Technology and other educators and practice leaders across VCH to ensure alignment of best practices for educational theory and practice and to remain connected with developing best practices within the profession. The Clinical Instructor is responsible for overseeing the organization's clinical experience of radiology technology students during their rotation through the department by identifying student learning needs, developing appropriate educational content, student rotations and placement, and is accountable for the students’ learning outcomes. They work in collaboration with the applicable academic institution(s) to develop, organize, plan and deliver the training program and coordinate training activities for technology students. The Clinical Instructor develops, plans, coordinates and assesses training activities for the technology students, implements an evaluation system to evaluate student progress during clinical training, acts as a liaison between academic institution(s) and department personnel, supports the training of technologists ensuring students have a positive clinical experience, and maintains various training records and manuals.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited program in Medical Radiography in the designated modality and certification with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologist (CAMRT) in the designated modality or other recognized registration body.
  • Five (5) years' recent, related medical imaging experience in the designated medical imaging modality (i.e. Interventional Radiology, Fluoroscopy, General Procedures, CT) including completion of a professional instructional program and recent experience creating educational materials, implementing education strategies, utilizing knowledge translation abilities and experience mentoring staff and/or students, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Completion of a professional instructional program for teaching at the college level such as Educator Pathway 1 and 2, Instructors Diploma Program or Adult Education Certificate or related health care degree.
  • Eligible for membership with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists.
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification-Level C or Basic Life Support (BCLS), as required.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes, as required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of organization policies, legislation, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Radiology Technology theory in the designated modality and practice within a client and family centred model of care.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of aseptic techniques.
  • Broad knowledge of CAMRT and/or other relevant national professional association practice guidelines and competency profiles for technologists.
  • Broad knowledge of adult education theory and recognized experience with curriculum and instructional design principles and practices.
  • Broad knowledge of tele-health and technology-based learning.
  • Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in patient care.
  • General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and construct effective and dynamic education modules.

Responsibilities
