About The Position

To perform radiographic examinations on patients referred by physicians in accordance with Radiology protocols. This role involves performing specialized procedures, including CT scans, and operating associated imaging equipment. The technician will also provide leadership and direction to support personnel in the absence of a supervisor, coordinate staff breaks, assist in orienting new technologists, and allocate work. Responsibilities include preparing patients, assisting physicians with procedures, explaining procedures to patients, operating contrast media injectors, preparing and administering contrast media, and ensuring the cleanliness and orderliness of the work area. The technician will also coordinate scan protocols with radiologists, maintain accurate patient records in the Radiology Information System (IDX), and perform quality assurance procedures. Additionally, the role involves preventing the spread of infection, ensuring compliance with infection control policies, and performing non-disciplinary duties of the assistant supervisor as required. Training and development of technical staff and students is also a key aspect of this position, along with maintaining licensure and adhering to public health codes.

Requirements

  • High school graduate.
  • Graduate from an accredited program in radiological technology.
  • Minimum of five years as radiological technologist.
  • New York State License
  • ARRT Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Performs Specialized procedures.
  • Performs CT Scan procedures.
  • Operates all radiographic imaging equipment associated with Special Procedures, Computed Tomography, and General Diagnostic, including but not limited to image intensifiers, monitors, injectors, and angiographic tables.
  • Applies the necessary technical judgment to obtain studies of an acceptable diagnostic quality according to written protocols and the patient’s needs.
  • Provides Leadership and direction to support personnel in the absence of a supervisor.
  • Delegates responsibility to staff as appropriate.
  • Coordinates breaks and meal times.
  • Assists in orientation of Staff Technologists.
  • Allocates work to the technologist.
  • Prepares patients with aseptic solutions and sterile drapes.
  • Assists in preparation of sterile surgical instruments and supplies needed for all Special Procedure examinations.
  • Assists physician with room set up and procedure, when required, to include opening, and handing guide wires, catheters, setting up trays, etc.
  • Explains procedures to patients and answer questions.
  • Loads and programs contrast media power injectors according to established departmental procedures.
  • Prepares and administers oral and IV contrast media and accessories required to assist physicians in performing procedures.
  • Prepares and operates specialized imaging equipment, sets controls, establishes proper “programs” under direction of the Radiologist.
  • Ensures supplies are ordered as needed by informing immediate supervisor or personnel responsible for placing orders.
  • Maintains exam room cleanliness and orderliness of the work area and equipment to include removal of soiled or dirty linen to ensure compliance with infection control and departmental standards.
  • Coordinates scan protocols with radiologist.
  • Scans patient documents as required.
  • Employs radiation protection measures and follows departmental protocols to keep exposure of patients, visitors and hospital personnel to a minimum.
  • Performs all quality assurance procedures as required.
  • Prevents the spread of infection to self, patients, visitors, and other employees by adhering to infection control policies and protocol.
  • Ensures that all studies performed are completed in IDX (Radiology Information System) in a timely fashion.
  • Accurately records all required patient tracking information into IDX (Radiology Information System).
  • Schedules exams into IDX (Radiology Information System) as required.
  • Performs non-disciplinary job duties of the assistant supervisor as required.
  • Assists in training and development of technical staff and students.
  • Maintains in good standing, licensure specific to job to include adherence to Article 35 of the Public Health Code.
