About The Position

UPMC, the largest non-profit healthcare system in Pennsylvania, and GoHealth Urgent Care, the largest operator of urgent cares in the country, have partnered to operate urgent care centers across Pennsylvania and West Virginia. We are seeking a Radiologic Technologist (RT) to join our growing team. At UPMC-GoHealth Urgent Care, we prioritize patient needs by providing an effortless patient experience, a welcoming culture of care, and seamless integration with market-leading health systems and our communities. This role is responsible for performing and analyzing patient x-rays, reporting results to Medical Providers, and providing administrative support to ensure efficient center operations. You will collaborate with Medical Providers and Medical Assistants, exercise professional judgment in applying x-ray energy for diagnosis or treatment across all age groups, and ensure patient comfort and safety.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Graduate of an approved Radiologic Technologist program required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required at the time of hire, obtained through the American Red Cross (ARC) or American Heart Association (AHA).
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registration required at time of hire.
  • State licensure as a Radiologic Technologist is required at the time of hire (if applicable by state law).
  • Knowledge of X-ray procedures and protocols.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform X-ray testing including body mechanics and patient movement.
  • Knowledge of radiology equipment including safety hazards common to radiology.
  • Positioning patients properly for the X-ray procedure required.
  • Identifying equipment problems and correcting or notifying supervisor.
  • Following infection control and radiological safety procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Apply x-ray energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment of patients in all age groups.
  • Perform and analyze patient x-rays and report results to Medical Providers.
  • Provide administrative support to ensure efficient operation of UPMC-GoHealth Urgent Care Centers.
  • Collaborate with Medical Providers and Medical Assistants on patient care management, organization, and communication.
  • Prepare patients for examination, including conducting interviews, recording medical history, and confirming the purpose of the visit.
  • Perform preliminary physical tests (blood pressure, weight, temperature) for vital signs and escalate critical cases to the provider.
  • Conduct point-of-care testing (e.g., flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, HCG) and provide patient information to the provider.
  • Maintain medical records and scan charts to patient files.
  • Conduct courtesy call-backs for patient follow-up.
  • Perform and document daily controls and calibration of equipment.
  • Maintain Quality Assurance/Quality Control logs for equipment.
  • Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns, perform preventive maintenance, and submit repair tickets.
  • Determine which procedures or views will best assist in accurate diagnoses and treatment in collaboration with the provider.
  • Support clinic operations to keep the center running smoothly.
  • Explain procedures to patients, ensure their comfort and safety, and answer their questions.
  • Accurately position patients and equipment for optimal imaging results.
  • Select proper ionizing factors by adjusting/setting radiographic controls to capture clear, high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of X-ray equipment, and manage necessary supplies.
  • Adhere to strict radiation safety protocols and implement ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) to minimize exposure to patients and staff.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and log completed procedures in electronic systems and/or logbooks.
  • Verify image quality and ensure images are sent to radiologists for interpretation.
