About The Position

This position performs radiographic procedures by acquiring and processing patient exams in accordance with accrediting bodies and/or manufacturer guidelines and as outlined in department protocols. The role involves reviewing cases with the Radiologist, screening patients for pregnancy, and reviewing radiology orders for completeness and accuracy. The technologist is responsible for reviewing patient history and clinical data for medical necessity, acquiring additional information if needed, and ensuring acceptable imaging quality standards. This includes transferring and verifying image data in PACS, maintaining imaging equipment and the workplace environment, and participating in departmental Quality Assurance/Quality Control programs. The role also involves ensuring patient, visitor, and environmental safety, preventing excessive radiation doses, and reporting safety events. Additionally, the technologist will schedule patients for various examinations, manage case study data using RPMS software, participate in Performance Improvement activities, and maintain accreditation through continuing education. Responsibilities also include transporting patients, responding to on-call services, attending mandatory training, and assisting in the orientation and training of others. The position is subject to Navajo/Indian Preference in Employment Policy.

Requirements

  • Applicant must have a valid, unrestricted insurable driver's license.
  • Resumes and references are required.
  • Associate of Science (AS) degree in Radiologic Technology OR Certificate of completion by an accredited radiology-training program and/or the U.S. Military Tri-Service Radiography Program.
  • Certified and Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and must maintain ARRT credentials.
  • Active, unrestricted Radiologic Technologist Certification by the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) and must maintain certification.
  • Valid American Heart Association (AHA) certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and maintain certification.

Responsibilities

  • Performs radiographic procedures by acquiring and processing patient exams in accordance with accreting bodies and/or manufacturer guidelines and as outlined in department protocols.
  • Review cases with the Radiologist when appropriate.
  • Screens the patient for possibility of pregnancy and performs pregnancy testing if applicable.
  • Responsible in reviewing radiology orders for completeness and accuracy.
  • Reviews patient history and supporting clinical data for medical necessity.
  • Take steps to acquire additional information, if needed, from the patient, the ordering provider and/or Radiologist.
  • Demonstrates acceptable imaging quality standards by critiquing positioning, technical factors and alignment.
  • Reviews patient data for accuracy, quality and completeness.
  • Transfers and verifies image data in PACS and provides necessary medical history and information for Radiologist interpretation.
  • Responsible for maintaining imaging equipment and workplace environment.
  • Participates in departmental Quality Assurance/Quality Control programs and technique development programs.
  • Recognizes and reports malfunctions and service needs. Reports service needs in a timely manner.
  • Ensure patient, visitor and environmental safety.
  • Prevent excessive radiation doses to the patient and staff by utilizing A.L.A.R.A. and adhering to department policies.
  • Reports safety events immediately including those that are a near miss in the RL.Datix system.
  • Assist other areas during downtime to maintain productivity.
  • Schedule patients for routine Radiology, Ultrasound, Computerized Tomography (CT), MRI and Mammography examinations.
  • Request, register, modify and edit case study data utilizing the Resource & Patient Management System (RPMS) software.
  • Participates in departmental Quality Assurance/Quality Control programs and technique development programs.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement activities, keeps abreast of the latest and current technical literature and maintains accreditation through continuing education.
  • Transport patients to other departments as needed.
  • Respond to on-call services in a timely manner.
  • Attends/participates in all mandatory training.
  • Assists in the orientation, training and documentation of the progress of radiologic technologists, contractors and/or students as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
