Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Graduate of an approved Radiologic Technologist program required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required at the time of hire, obtained through the American Red Cross (ARC) or American Heart Association (AHA).
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registration required at time of hire.
  • State licensure as a Radiologic Technologist is required at the time of hire (if applicable by state law).
  • Knowledge of X-ray procedures and protocols.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform X-ray testing including body mechanics and patient movement.
  • Knowledge of radiology equipment including safety hazards common to radiology.
  • Positioning patients properly for the X-ray procedure required.
  • Identifying equipment problems and correcting or notifying supervisor.
  • Following infection control and radiological safety procedures.

  • Experience in a clinical setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Medical Providers and Medical Assistants on patient care management, organization, and communication.
  • Apply x-ray energy to assist in the diagnosis or treatment of patients of all age groups.
  • Perform and analyze patient x-rays and report results to Medical Providers.
  • Provide administrative support to ensure efficient operation of UPMC-GoHealth Urgent Care Centers.
  • Inform technical staff of patient flow.
  • Prepare patients for examination, including verifying patient information, recording medical history, confirming the purpose of the visit, and performing preliminary physical tests (blood pressure, weight, temperature).
  • Conduct point-of-care testing as needed (e.g., flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, HCG).
  • Provide patient information to the provider.
  • Maintain medical records and scan charts to patient files.
  • Conduct courtesy call-backs for patient follow-up.
  • Perform and document daily controls and calibration of equipment.
  • Maintain Quality Assurance/Quality Control logs for equipment.
  • Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns, perform preventive maintenance, and submit repair tickets.
  • Collaborate with the ordering/treating Provider to determine optimal procedures and views for accurate diagnoses and treatment.
  • Support clinic operations to ensure smooth center functioning.
  • Explain procedures to patients, ensuring their comfort and safety, and answering their questions.
  • Accurately position patients and equipment for optimal imaging results.
  • Select proper ionizing factors by adjusting/setting radiographic controls to capture clear, high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of X-ray equipment, and manage necessary supplies.
  • Adhere to strict radiation safety protocols and implement ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) to minimize exposure to patients and staff.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and log completed procedures in electronic systems and/or logbooks.
  • Verify image quality and ensure images are sent to radiologists for interpretation.
