About The Position

The Radiologic Technologist will provide radiology technician services, performing all required radiology procedures without technical support. The role involves working with both digital and analog radiological equipment. The position is part-time, working approximately 20 hours per month, not to exceed 250 hours per year, over a five-year period. The technologist will serve the inmate population at FCI-Tallahassee and FDC-Tallahassee.

Requirements

  • Must be licensed to perform radiological procedures by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists.
  • Must have an unrestricted state license to practice in the state of Florida as a Radiological Technologist.
  • Be a graduate from an accredited school or program for a Radiological Technologist.
  • Be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • A minimum of two (2) years of Radiological Technologist experience.
  • Must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified either by the American Red Cross (ARC) or the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Knowledge of digital equipment is required.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must pass a National Background Check with Inquiries, Fingerprints, and Drug Screen.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine radiologic procedures ordered by the medical staff for the inmate population.
  • Independently perform all radiographic procedures, including chest, bone, skull, spine, and portable X-rays.
  • Independently assess and select technical exposure factors and positions necessary to obtain a proper quality diagnostic exam.
  • Receive patients and explain procedures to alleviate undue anxiety.
  • Work with an inmate population from a variety of cultural, racial, religious, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Evaluate radiographic equipment for calibrations and repairs.
  • Possess knowledge of basic emergency situations that may occur during special radiographic procedures.
  • Schedule exams and maintain records.
  • Possess knowledge of various pathological abnormalities as demonstrated by radiographic imaging.
  • Notify the radiologist or referring Physician of any preliminary abnormalities seen while the patient is undergoing an exam.
  • Coordinate transfer of patient radiologic records to ensure continuity of care.
  • Work with the Clinical Director to ensure monitoring and evaluation activities are completed.
  • Act as liaison between radiologist and medical staff.
  • Receive training and orientation and comply with correctional techniques as they pertain to medical services.
  • Develop a working knowledge of FCI/FDC Tallahassee medical protocols.
  • Wear outer protective clothing and always obey CDC universal precautions.
  • Function in other duties commensurate with a Radiological Technician.
  • Computerization and printing of the daily log, exam requisitions, and exam labels.
  • Completing all X-ray studies ordered by the medical staff.
  • Preparing digital X-rays to transmit to the contracted radiologist for interpretation.
  • Transport of X-rays to and from the radiologist for interpretation.
  • Assisting staff with equipment and supply maintenance, and notifying staff when supplies are needed.
  • Conducting quality assurance tests and daily maintenance on X-ray equipment.
  • Assisting with FDA inspections and preparation for JCAHO and program review.
  • Assuring that all X-ray requests are completed properly, and the computerization of patient logs and repeat analysis.
  • Assuring that all X-ray equipment is operational and aprons are checked for leaks and breaks according to policy.
  • Maintain log, receive badges exposure reports, and give reports to the Clinical Director or designee for review.
  • Ensure that high exposures are documented.
  • Prepare forms for badge orders quarterly.
  • Transmit, retrieve X-ray images and report electronically, and scan reports into the Adults in Custody (AICs) Bureau Electronic Medical Record (BEMR).
  • Receive training to retrieve radiographic consultants from BEMR and schedule them to perform all radiographic procedures.
