This position is intended for a Radiologic Technologist seeking to advance into an Interventional Technologist role. The role includes a structured training program in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab, with a training period of approximately 4–6 months. The technologist will assist Interventional Cardiologists, Radiologists, and Vascular Surgeons in Cardiovascular Diagnostic and Interventional procedures. Responsibilities include performing duties as scrub and monitoring staff, providing radiation safety and general safety for patients and staff, and offering patient and family education to support customer satisfaction. The role involves working as part of the Cath Lab/IR/Endovascular team, supporting nursing functions, and demonstrating competencies related to imaging and device-based equipment. The technologist will perform with competency in Code STEMI and Code Stroke alerts, document and evaluate intervention outcomes, and provide on-call services as assigned. This role requires operation of c-arm radiation equipment, provision of radiation protection, and competency in all procedural applications. Preparation of sterile fields without error or violation of aseptic technique is essential. The technologist will function as scrub assist and hemodynamic monitor, and be knowledgeable regarding the prep and use of all current devices in Cath Lab/IR/Endovascular inventory, including atherectomy, IABP, IVUS, Impella, CTO, DES, DCB, OCT, thrombectomy, and embolic coils. Procedures include PCI, PTCA, PTA, cerebral and visceral angiography and interventions, stent placement, line placements, dialysis access maintenance, and pacemaker and ICD implant. The role demands rapid decision making, critical thinking, and clinical leadership skills, acting as a preceptor. The technologist must respond quickly and effectively to STEMI, Stroke, respiratory and cardiac arrest alerts, provide patient/family education, and assist nursing staff in all aspects of patient care. Reporting deviations of standards to the nurse leader and maintaining the CPACS database are also key responsibilities. Competency in arterial and venous sheath removal, hemostasis, access site management, and EKG recognition and hemodynamics is required, with the ability to alert Cardiologists to changes from baseline. Patient care is provided peri-procedure, with assistance in pre and post-procedure care, and maintaining readiness for rapid transport for emergent or salvage CABG or vascular surgery.
