This role is responsible for providing a variety of technical procedures and applying prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. The Radiologic Technologist works with Medical Providers and/or Medical Assistants with the examination and treatment of patients, performing and analyzing patient x-rays and reporting results. Additional responsibilities include providing administrative support to ensure efficient operation of the centers.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required
  • Graduate of an approved Radiologic Technologist program required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required at the time of hire, obtained through the American Red Cross (ARC) or American Heart Association (AHA).
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registration required at time of hire.
  • State licensure as a Radiologic Technologist is required at the time of hire (if applicable by state law).
  • Experience in a clinical setting preferred
  • Knowledge of X-ray procedures and protocols.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform X-ray testing including body mechanics and patient movement.
  • Knowledge of radiology equipment including safety hazards common to radiology.
  • Positioning patients properly for the X-ray procedure required.
  • Identifying equipment problems and correcting or notifying supervisor.
  • Following infection control and radiological safety procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Medical Providers and Medical Assistants through a variety of tasks related to patient care management, organization and communication.
  • Apply x-ray energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment of patients in all age groups from newborn to elderly.
  • Ensure patients are positioned correctly on or in front of equipment and protected during use.
  • Prepare patients for examination, including conducting interviews to verify patient information, record medical history, and confirm the purpose of the visit.
  • Perform preliminary physical tests (blood pressure, weight, temperature, etc.) for vital signs and escalate critical cases to the provider as needed.
  • Conduct point of care testing as needed (i.e., flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, HCG).
  • Provide patient information to the provider.
  • Responsible for maintenance of medical records and scanning charts to patient files.
  • Conduct courtesy call-backs for patient follow-up on care.
  • Follow operating instructions to perform and document daily controls and calibration of equipment.
  • Maintain Quality Assurance/Quality Control logs for equipment.
  • Troubleshoot breakdowns, perform preventive maintenance, and submit repair tickets as needed.
  • Collaborate with the ordering/treating Provider to determine which procedures or views will best assist in accurate diagnoses and treatment.
  • Support clinic operations to keep the center running smoothly.
  • Explain procedures to patients, ensuring their comfort and safety, and answering their questions.
  • Accurately position patients and equipment for optimal imaging results.
  • Select proper ionizing factors by adjusting/setting radiographic controls to capture clear, high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Perform routine maintenance, cleaning of X-ray equipment, and manage necessary supplies.
  • Adhere to strict radiation safety protocols and implement ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) to minimize exposure to patients and staff.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and log completed procedures in electronic systems and/or logbooks as required.
  • Verify image quality and ensure images are sent to radiologists for interpretation.
