Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent.
  • Completion of AMA approved radiologic technology program.
  • Registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Excellent customer service orientation skills necessary in order to deal effectively with various levels of hospital personnel, outside customers and community groups.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous one year experience (preferred) as a Rad Tech or Radiologist.

Responsibilities

  • Performs radiologic procedures at a technical level not requiring supervision of technical detail.
  • Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment, with integrity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiographic diagnosis.
  • Performs routine radiographic fluoroscopic procedures on patient of all ages (including pediatrics), demonstrates anatomy under investigation through proper patient positioning, techniques.
  • Performs and /or assists with radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures.
  • Prepares and/or administers contrast media according to department policy.
  • Demonstrates correct and adequate anatomic positioning skills.
  • Demonstrates complete working knowledge of all radiographic equipment within the department.
  • Develops exposed films and reloads cassettes with appropriate film.
  • Positions patient to obtain desired views.
  • Applies immobilization devices as required.
  • Prepares and positions patient for procedures.
  • Retrieves and calls reports to physician's office, nursing units, surgery and ER upon request.
  • Reviews exposed radiographs for proper positioning, techniques and identification.
  • Recognizes and records patient history, unusual conditions/limitations such as examination time, room number and technique.
  • Performs all routine radiographic procedures and views according to the department procedures manual.
  • Performs daily warm up and quality control checks to each radiographic room/equipment assigned.
  • Responds quickly to beeper calls.
  • Performs quality control test on assigned equipment.
  • Adjusts technical factors in proportion to patient and body part being examined while minimizing radiation.
  • Performs visual preventive safety inspections, completes tube warm-up procedures for each radiographic room/equipment as assigned.
  • Records quality control activities, reports dangerous department or equipment conditions to appropriate personnel.
  • Provides radiation protection to patient, self and staff according to the prescribed safety standards including but not limited to coning, proper techniques, film badge applications, and repeat.
  • Performs visual preventive maintenance checks, records and reports results to appropriate personnel.
  • Fills out maintenance forms.
  • Practices sterile techniques to prevent cross contamination.
  • Practices isolation techniques to prevent cross contamination.
  • Receives consultation request checking for special instructions from the requesting physician, consults with radiologist as necessary.
  • Pleasantly greets patients, confirming their identification and introducing yourself.
  • Completely explains examination procedure to the patient and their family if present.
  • Greets and introduces self to patient.
  • Describes nature and time requirement of examination to patient.
  • Identifies problem and communication to immediate supervisor; offers solutions as appropriate.
  • Consults with radiologist and /or physician/nurse regarding examinations as necessary.
  • Updates patient examination history file, records unusual conditions/limitations, documents examination time, room number and technique factors.
  • Completes examination, consultation and billing procedures as require.
