About The Position

Performs high quality Radiographic exams as directed by the Radiologist. Assists in the daily routines of the Imaging Department. Responsible for performing any procedures that are part of General Radiology, including special procedures, OR cases, portable exams, etc. This is in accordance with approved techniques, policies, and regulatory standards as established by regulatory agencies, and standards and policies set forth by the organization. Adheres to the professional standards of the NYS Department of Health and the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an Accredited Radiologic Technology program.
  • New York State Department of Health Licensure
  • Registered with ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
  • BLS within 3 months of hire.
  • IV certification.
  • 1 year of experience in a general radiography setting.

Responsibilities

  • Performs direct patient care: Applies knowledge of anatomy, positioning, and radiographic techniques for each exam.
  • Determines exposure factors to achieve optimum radiographic techniques with minimum radiation exposure.
  • Follows the ALARA principle in incorporating collimation and shielding in accordance with policy and procedures.
  • Performs any special procedures as part of DI services, and prepares contrast media for exams as needed.
  • Greets Patients/family in a professional manner and can adequately listen and take care of patient concerns or refer concerns as needed.
  • Utilizes two patient identifiers per policy, verifies Provider order accuracy, and educates patients pre/, during, and post-procedure.
  • Ensures that patients are properly dressed and prepped for all exams.
  • Maintains Equipment, supplies, cleanliness, and Safety: Follows CPH Infection control P&P with regards to Isolation, universal precautions, and cleansing of equipment.
  • Maintains an adequate amount of supplies within exam rooms as needed for the schedule.
  • Performs daily QA/QC on equipment as required per manufacturer and/or NYS-reports any mechanical issues or system errors to the Biomed Department.
  • Wears a radiation film badge per guidelines and turns it in each month for monitoring.
  • Assists Peers and Patients in transporting, transferring, and standing of patients, following safe handling guidelines.
  • Improvement commitments, (Listens/attends monthly staff meetings and modality meetings, suggests ways to improve quality, productivity, demonstrates responsibility for ongoing personal development and growth through continuing education.
  • Plans and uses time appropriately, by performing duties in a self-directed manner with minimal supervision, able to complete routine and urgent exams within departmental time frames.
  • Follows standards of behavior as set by the department and CPH.
  • Completes annual Healthstream programs, maintains HIPAA, and complies with laws, rules, regulations, standards, and hospital policies.
  • Reports compliance issues through the chain of command.
  • Stays within hospital guidelines regarding sick/absent time, and provides proper notification of absence/tardiness.
