The Radiologic Technologist provides clinical services according to radiology practice standards to ensure optimal department functions. This role involves demonstrating skills and knowledge in the use of all x-ray equipment and performance of all x-ray protocols and procedures, ensuring technical proficiency in producing high-quality exams within the appropriate length of time for each procedure. The technologist will also demonstrate a satisfactory working knowledge of PACS and review scans with Radiologists as needed, confirming patient identity, body part, and body side for every patient prior to the procedure. Additionally, the role requires administering sound patient care practices according to department and hospital policies to ensure patient safety, communicating effectively with patients to obtain clinical history and informed consent, and explaining procedures to patients and families to ease anxiety and assure cooperation. The technologist must be able to recognize and address clinical or emergent problems that may interfere with exams, respond to critical test findings, and acquire and evaluate patient lab values when applicable. Maintaining equipment, exam rooms, and work areas in a neat and safe condition is also a key responsibility, including daily checks, troubleshooting malfunctions, reporting dangerous conditions, maintaining cleanliness, managing supply levels, and cleaning/disinfecting equipment. Quality control checks in accordance with policy requirements, participation in QC and PI programs, and maintaining proper sterile and aseptic techniques are essential. The role also includes completing ancillary tasks such as accurately recording information on requisitions, performing clerical duties, and inputting/verifying data in PACS/RADIANT.
