The Radiologic Technologist provides clinical services according to radiology practice standards to ensure optimal department functions. This role demonstrates skills and knowledge in the use of all x-ray equipment and performance of all x-ray protocols and procedures, as well as technical proficiency in producing high-quality exams within the appropriate length of time for each procedure. The technologist will also demonstrate a satisfactory working knowledge of PACS and review scans with Radiologists as needed, confirming patient identity, body part, and body side for every patient prior to the procedure. Additionally, the role involves administering sound patient care practices, communicating effectively with patients to obtain clinical history and informed consent, explaining procedures to ease anxiety, and recognizing/responding to clinical or emergent problems. The technologist is responsible for maintaining equipment, exam rooms, and work areas in a neat and safe condition, checking for hazards, troubleshooting malfunctions, and maintaining supply levels. Quality control checks are performed in accordance with policy requirements, including maintaining proper sterile and aseptic techniques, adhering to body substance isolation policies, and wearing a film badge while on duty. Ancillary tasks include accurately recording information on requisitions, performing clerical duties, and inputting/verifying data in PACS/RADIANT.
