About The Position

UPMC, a leading academic medical institution, and GoHealth Urgent Care, the largest operator of urgent cares in the country, have partnered to operate urgent care centers across Pennsylvania and West Virginia. This role is for a Radiologic Technologist (RT) who will work with Medical Providers and/or Medical Assistants in the examination and treatment of UPMC-GoHealth Urgent Care patients. The RT will be responsible for performing technical procedures, applying ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis, and performing and analyzing patient x-rays, reporting results to Medical Providers. The role also involves providing administrative support to ensure efficient center operations and collaborating with the medical team to support patient care management, organization, and communication.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Graduate of an approved Radiologic Technologist program required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required at the time of hire, obtained through the American Red Cross (ARC) or American Heart Association (AHA).
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registration required at time of hire.
  • State licensure as a Radiologic Technologist is required at the time of hire (if applicable by state law).
  • Experience in a clinical setting preferred.
  • Positioning patients properly for the X-ray procedure required.
  • Identifying equipment problems and correcting or notifying supervisor.
  • Following infection control and radiological safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of X-ray procedures and protocols.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform X-ray testing including body mechanics and patient movement.
  • Knowledge of radiology equipment including safety hazards common to radiology.

Responsibilities

  • Applying x-ray energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment of patients in all age groups.
  • Performing and analyzing patient x-rays and reporting results to Medical Providers.
  • Providing administrative support to ensure efficient operation of UPMC-GoHealth Urgent Care Centers.
  • Collaborating with Medical Providers and Medical Assistants through a variety of tasks related to patient care management, organization and communication.
  • Preparing patients for examination, including conducting interviews to verify patient information, record medical history, and confirm purpose of visit.
  • Performing preliminary physical tests (blood pressure, weight, temperature, etc.) for vital signs and escalating critical cases to provider as needed.
  • Conducting point of care testing as needed (i.e., flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, HCG).
  • Providing patient information to provider.
  • Responsible for maintenance of medical records and scanning charts to patient files.
  • Conducting courtesy call-backs for patient follow-up on care.
  • Following operating instructions to perform and document daily controls and calibration of equipment.
  • Maintaining Quality Assurance/Quality Control logs for equipment.
  • Troubleshooting breakdowns, performing preventive maintenance, and submitting repair tickets as needed.
  • Collaborating with the ordering/treating Provider to determine which procedures or views will best assist in accurate diagnoses and treatment.
  • Supporting clinic operations to keep the center running smoothly.
  • Explaining procedures to patients, ensuring their comfort and safety, and answering their questions.
  • Accurately positioning patients and equipment for optimal imaging results.
  • Selecting proper ionizing factors by adjusting/setting radiographic controls to capture clear, high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Performing routine maintenance and cleaning of X-ray equipment, and managing necessary supplies.
  • Adhering to strict radiation safety protocols and implementing ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) to minimize exposure to patients and staff.
  • Maintaining accurate patient records and logging completed procedures in electronic systems and/or logbooks as required.
  • Verifying image quality and ensuring images are sent to radiologists for interpretation.
