The Radiologic Technologist provides clinical services according to radiology practice standards to ensure optimal department functions. This role demonstrates skills and knowledge in the use of all x-ray equipment and performance of all x-ray protocols and procedures. The technologist also demonstrates technical proficiency in producing high-quality exams within the appropriate length of time for the procedure. This position involves demonstrating a satisfactory working knowledge of PACS and reviewing scans with Radiologists as needed. A key responsibility is confirming patient identity, body part, and body side for every patient prior to the procedure. The role also involves administering sound patient care practices according to department and hospital policies to ensure patient safety, communicating effectively with patients to obtain clinical history and informed consent, explaining procedures to patients and families, and responding to critical test findings. Additionally, the technologist acquires and evaluates patient lab values and maintains equipment, exam rooms, and work areas in a neat and safe condition. Quality control checks are performed in accordance with policy requirements, including maintaining proper sterile technique and aseptic practices. Ancillary tasks include accurately recording information on requisitions, performing clerical duties, and inputting/verifying data in PACS/RADIANT.
