About The Position

The University of Rochester is seeking a Radiologic Technologist I to join their Urgent Care department. This is a full-time, regular position located at 601 Elmwood Ave, Rochester, New York. The role involves producing high-quality X-ray images safely and efficiently, adhering to departmental policies, and understanding human anatomy and x-ray positioning. This entry-level position requires training and supervision, with the expectation of progressing towards proficient performance of tasks. Success in this band involves independent responsibility for general section studies, accurate record-keeping, and providing high-quality images for radiologist interpretation. Advancement to higher bands is based on departmental need and performance.

Requirements

Completion of formal training in an approved School of Radiologic Technology.
Maintains current NYS licensure and ARRT certification with CE credits as required.
Technologists new to URMC Imaging Department who require training as well as regular direct supervision or guidance from a more senior technologist.
Demonstrate an ability to progress towards proficient and competent performance of required tasks of a Radiologic Technologist.
Independent responsibility for performing general section studies in a safe and efficient manner, completing all associated paper and computer work while providing high quality images for radiologist interpretation.
Must be in good standing for advancement consideration.

Nice To Haves

Ability to work with student technologists to sign off on their required competencies while rotating through UR Imaging.
Demonstrates consistent attention to detail when performing all imaging exams.
Completes all associated paper and computer work for discharging patients with appropriate post procedure instructions.
May include working on special projects, such as new equipment evaluations and assisting in the design of areas where clinical equipment will be installed, or assignment to departmental committees.
Minimum of 18 months of progressively responsible professional work experience in an Imaging Sciences setting, with at least 6 months dedicated to the URMC Imaging Sciences Department (for Band Two).
Serves as a preceptor in the on-boarding of newly hired Technologists directly orienting to equipment, imaging routines and procedures, computer programs and software, as well as departmental and hospital policies (for Band Three).
Subject matter expert in downtime procedures and acts as super-user when new equipment or programs are introduced to the department (for Band Three).
Directly assists in the mentoring of newer Technologists by providing one-on-one assistance in conjunction with the Supervising Technologist (for Band Three).
Possesses subject matter expertise in several different areas that could include, but not limited to myelograms, specialty OR cases, specialty GIGU cases, the ability to competently operate a variety of different vendor platforms and perform departmental QA procedures (for Band Three).
Able to effectively troubleshoot issues that arise within the department and deal with accordingly (for Band Three).
Able to represent the department on various committees such as safety, quality, and operations groups (for Band Three).
Takes responsibility to prepare the department and staff for NYS and TJC evaluations (for Band Three).
Facilitates new policies and procedures to staff (for Band Three).
Serves as a resource to the supervisors for special projects as assigned (for Band Three).
Select Band Three Technologists may be designated as Leads to support operations on various shifts. Leads may either assist their shift supervisor, or in the absence of a supervisor, determine workflow and staff schedule/assignments. Leads may also provide performance evaluation input to the section supervisor.
Minimally requires 4 years of progressively responsible professional work experience as a Radiologic Technologist in a clinical or hospital environment with 1 year dedicated to the URMC Imaging Sciences Department preferred (for Band Three).
Employees hired externally with appropriate credentials and relevant experience may enter the career bands as a Band Three to serve in a Lead role if the need exists within the department.

Responsibilities

Responsible for producing high quality X-ray images by conducting exams in a safe and efficient manner.
Verifies and follows referring providers' orders while remaining in compliance with the Imaging Sciences departmental policies.
Possesses a sound understanding of human anatomy as well as x-ray positioning and the use of immobilization devices when warranted.
Prepares room and patient per order, properly sets up equipment, positions patients, and determines proper exposure factors to produce a high-quality image.
Utilizes electronic patient information systems to verify patient name, date, appropriate exam, and any special exam specific comments from the provider. Understands and practices the Dual patient identifier procedure.
Maintains appropriate supplies in the x-ray rooms.
Produces a diagnostic, high-quality image for interpretation by the Radiologist.
Transfers patients to and from imaging tables using assistive devices such as ARJO lift, transfer boards, hover mats.
Maintains accurate patient record keeping by properly identifying images and assuring images are sent to the PACS system correctly.
Completes and bills for studies accurately.
At an advanced level, may train new employees or lead day to day work activities.
