About The Position

Kern Medical is seeking a full-time Radiologic Technologist I/II to join their team. This role involves taking routine radiographs for medical and surgical diagnosis and treatment. Kern Medical is an acute care teaching center with 222 beds, serving a large number of inpatients and clinic patients annually. Requirements

• High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent.
• Graduation from an accredited two-year program in radiologic technology approved by the Joint Review Committee on Education.
• Certification as a Radiologic Technologist issued by the State of California, Department of Public Health.
• Flouroscopy certification by the State of California, Department of Health Services must be obtained within six months (Level I).
• Possession of a Certified Fluoroscopy permit from the State of California, Department of Health Services (Level II).
• One (1) year of experience as a Radiological Technologist (Level II).
• Possess a current American Heart Association Responder or Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card at time of hire.
• As a continued condition of employment, employee must maintain RQI Responder certification and competency.
• Employees must maintain all health requirements designated by Kern Medical Center.
• Knowledge of modern radiology equipment and techniques.
• Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
• Knowledge of occupational and safety precautions for radiologic work.
• Knowledge of acute care hospital procedures.
• Knowledge of effective verbal and written communications and computer skills.
• Ability to administer emergency first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
• Ability to maintain records and files.
• Ability to follow instructions.
• Ability to deal tactfully and professionally with patients, physicians and staff.
• Ability to maintain the strictest levels of confidentiality.
• If position responsibilities require driving a personal vehicle, then possession of a current valid California Driver’s License and adherence to the Kern County Hospital Authority Vehicle Use and Driving Standard Policy (ENG-EC-119) is required.
• If position responsibilities require driving a vehicle owned, leased or rented by Kern Medical, then possession of a current valid California Driver’s license, a signed authorization for Release of Drivers Record Information and adherence to the Kern County Hospital Authority Vehicle Use and Driving Standard Policy (ENG-EC-119) is required.

Responsibilities

• Reviews images for proper identification and quality; works in the darkroom to process radiographs when required.
• Provides cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first-aid to patients while in the department.
• Documents all information on the patient's images, consents, and other medical records.
• Corroborates patient's clinical history with procedure, ensuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed independent practitioner.
• Verifies informed consent.
• Applies the principles of patient safety during all aspects of radiology procedures, including assisting and transporting patients.
• Identifies, prepares, and/or administers medications as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.
• Assists licensed independent practitioner with fluoroscopic radiography procedures.
• Performs non-interpretive fluoroscopic procedures as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.
• Prepares rooms and patients for radiographic examinations; calls patients to Radiology Department and releases them to return to appropriate unit or clinic upon completion of examination.
• Leads patients to dressing rooms and gives directions to them before examination.
• Moves patients from gurney/wheelchair to examination tables.
• Provides proper protection to patients according to prescribed safety standards, exercising personal safety precautions; shields and positions patients as required.
• Selects proper technique and operates radiology equipment to make radiographs of designated portions of the body as requested by the physician.
• Selects and uses proper immobilization and supportive devices when necessary; selects proper film, machine position and exposure procedures.
• Prepares and administers contrast agent for examination; assists radiologist/physician in special studies and procedures.
• Educates and monitors students and other health care providers (Level II only).
• Applies principles of ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) to minimize radiation exposure for patient, self, and others (Level II only).
• Performs procedures requiring fluoroscopy, prepares and administers chemical mixtures for patients for examination; assists radiologist/physician in special studies and procedures (Level II only).
• Maintains equipment and work areas in a clean and orderly condition (Level II only).
• Uses portable radiology equipment (Level II only).
• Dependent upon area of practice or department assignments, demonstrates clinical knowledge and skill in the care of newborn, infant, toddler, child adolescent, adult and/or geriatric patient ranging up to 100+ years of age (Level II only).
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
