About The Position

Performs diagnostic radiographic procedures and related techniques, producing images for interpretation by a licensed practitioner. This role involves operating radiography equipment, positioning patients, and ensuring image quality. Additionally, the technologist is responsible for patient records, billing, patient education, and adhering to quality and safety standards, including radiation protection and quality control tests. The position also includes performing venipunctures and administering contrast media as prescribed, and assisting licensed practitioners with interventional procedures.

Requirements

  • Successfully completed formal Radiologic Technology training in an ARRT approved program.
  • Registered (or eligible for registry) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiology.
  • Valid State of Iowa credential (Iowa Permit to Practice).
  • Certified as a Radiologic Technologist through ARRT in General Radiology and possess valid permit to practice from the Iowa Department of Public Health.
  • CT technologist certification must be obtained.
  • Ability to learn and navigate computer systems, including online training modules, employee timesheet, and performance appraisal system.
  • Must be able to read, speak, and write fluent English.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in area of licensure is preferred.
  • Mammography technologist certification must be obtained within 24 months after appropriate training is complete and application process is initiated.
  • MRI technologist certification must be obtained within 24 months after appropriate training is complete and application process is initiated.
  • MRI Technologist with 2 plus years of experience but not yet certified must possess certification 18 months after hire.
  • CT Technologist with 2 plus years of experience but not yet certified must possess certification 18 months after hire.
  • Current staff working towards advanced certification must possess certification within 24 months.
  • On call technologists must arrive within 30 minutes.

Responsibilities

  • Performs diagnostic radiographic procedures, including mammography, CT, MRI, and/or Dexa.
  • Selects and operates radiography equipment, imaging, and associated accessories.
  • Positions and immobilizes patients for appropriate examinations.
  • Operates mobile x-ray equipment in other departments.
  • Performs non-interpretive fluoroscopic procedures as appropriate.
  • Evaluates radiographs or images for technical quality and proper identification.
  • Corroborates patient's clinical history with procedure and documents information.
  • Codes signs and symptoms, diseases, operations, and procedures for insurance coverage.
  • Obtains patient waivers when procedures are not deemed medically necessary.
  • Completes all billing charges, notes, and required paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Prepares patients for procedures, providing instructions and minimizing anxiety.
  • Provides patient education.
  • Interviews patients and reviews clinical data to alert practitioners to contradictions.
  • Assumes responsibility for the physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures.
  • Determines radiographic technique exposure factors.
  • Applies principles of radiation protection.
  • Participates in the department's quality assessment and improvement plan.
  • Performs daily quality control tests as described by MQSA and reports/corrects deviations.
  • Practices aseptic techniques as necessary.
  • Reports equipment malfunction and provides input on equipment and supply decisions.
  • Understands methods and is capable of performing venipunctures.
  • Prepares, identifies, and/or administers contrast media as prescribed.
  • Verifies informed consent for and assists licensed practitioners with interventional procedures.
  • Assists licensed practitioners with fluoroscopic and specialized interventional radiography procedures.
  • Works on a weekend package schedule, including 5 of 6 weekends, holiday rotation, and CT call as needed.
