Operates x-ray equipment to produce radiographs of designated portions of the body as specified by a physician. This role involves maneuvering portable radiographic equipment in patient care areas and surgery, operating all components of radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment, and assisting radiologists in various examinations and procedures. The Radiographer is responsible for performing radiographic examinations on Level I Trauma patients, determining appropriate exposure factors, and positioning patients with immobilization devices as needed. Additionally, the role requires preparing patients for exams, explaining procedures, ensuring patient comfort, adhering to isolation/sterile techniques and radiation safety protocols, and verifying patient and procedure details. The position also entails reviewing radiographs for quality, reporting equipment issues, performing computer functions for RIS/HIS systems, and appropriately labeling all radiographs. Maintaining professionalism, cooperation, and positive interactions with colleagues, physicians, patients, and families is essential. The Radiographer participates in self-assessment of learning needs, seeks professional growth opportunities, attends in-services and CPR classes, and maintains state licensure and national board certification. Responsibilities also include maintaining adequate supplies, ensuring cleanliness of equipment and work areas, and using Universal Precautions. The role requires maintaining a safe environment based on age and developmental status, complying with procedural standards for all age groups, assisting with patient positioning and restraint, and reinforcing psychosocial interventions. Reassuring patients and interacting with families as needed are also key aspects of the role.
