About The Position

The Radiographer PRN under general supervision, performs routine Diagnostic X-Ray examinations using fixed and/or portable equipment in accordance with established protocols, safety guidelines and quality standards. This role requires a minimum of 2 shifts a month. The Radiographer PRN performs diagnostic imaging on patients as ordered by a care provider in routine or emergent conditions, ensuring testing is performed safely and with the highest quality standards, maintaining a consistent focus on patient-centric care. They assist with basic fluoroscopic procedures when required, prepare patients for procedures, and review clinical history. The role involves safely administering contrast per protocol, managing contrast reactions, and escalating changes in patient condition. Responding to patient and family inquiries, collaborating with team members, and conducting post-testing quality reviews are key responsibilities. Accurate documentation in EMR/PACS, transferring images and data, and performing equipment maintenance are also essential. The Radiographer may support academic partnerships by teaching students and serving as a preceptor. On-call clinical coverage may be required. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited imaging/radiology program as defined by ARRT.
  • Completion of JRCERT accredited Military Educational Program is accepted in lieu of other educational requirements.
  • At least 1 year of experience as a Radiographer required.
  • Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.
  • ARRT(RT) Certification required at hire.
  • Core knowledge and understanding of normal and abnormal anatomy and physiology; radiologic technologies and terminology associated with Diagnostic X-Ray.
  • Ability and skill to apply core-level primary specialty theory, practices and techniques to perform, post-process, analyze and annotate study data or procedure documentation with general supervision or assistance.
  • Knowledge of imaging and Diagnostic X-Ray policies, procedures, techniques, and processes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and patient populations served.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to apply HIPAA guidelines and standards.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete clinical or non-clinical work assignments.
  • Must be able to multi-task and remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Ability to work as part of a diverse team and communicate effectively with others.

Responsibilities

  • Performs diagnostic imaging on patients as ordered by a care provider in routine or emergent conditions.
  • Ensures testing is performed safely and with the highest quality standards, maintaining a consistent focus on patient‑centric care.
  • Assists with basic fluoroscopic procedures when required.
  • Prepares patients for procedures and reviews clinical history to align with provider-ordered tests.
  • Safely administers contrast per protocol and identifies, manages, and escalates contrast reactions and changes in patient condition.
  • Responds to inquiries from patients and family members, provides clear information regarding diagnostic testing and expected result timelines.
  • Collaborates with team members across OU Health including Providers to provide exceptional patient care.
  • Conducts post-testing quality reviews to confirm that all required elements are completed, documented and align with departmental and accreditation standards.
  • Accurately documents in EMR/PACS per organizational policies and procedures.
  • Transfers images and data to the appropriate electronic health system, enters technical data/findings and prepares study for reporting by physician.
  • Performs quality control checks, cleaning, disinfecting and other equipment maintenance tasks per manufacturer instructions for use and other regulatory guidelines.
  • Ensures that technical quality of testing meets established protocols and applicable accreditation standards.
  • Assists with quality assurance and performance improvement tasks as requested.
  • May support OU Health's academic partnerships by actively engaging in teaching of students in the radiologic program.
  • May serve as a departmental preceptor to provide instruction and mentorship to new or less experienced team members.
  • Assists with onboarding of new team members.
  • May provide on-call clinical coverage outside regularly scheduled duty hours on weekdays, weekends and holidays as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
