About The Position

This is a part-time X-ray technologist position for the Westmont outpatient center. The role involves performing radiological procedures, operating advanced equipment, ensuring patient safety, coordinating quality control, and potentially orienting new technologists. The position requires the ability to make independent professional decisions, possess high technical skills, and work effectively under stressful conditions. The technologist will be exposed to hazardous materials and life-threatening diseases, and must be able to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance, with patient handling equipment available for heavier lifts or when patients cannot assist. The schedule includes working every other weekend from 8 am to 12 pm and weekdays from 4 pm to 8 pm.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited AMA School of Radiology.
  • IDNS license.
  • 1-3 years experience as a general radiographer.
  • Knowledge of Health Information System.
  • Basic knowledge of radiology equipment.
  • Certified in radiology and registered by ARRT.
  • CPR certification.
  • Licensed by IDNS.
  • Able to make independent professional decisions pertaining to high quality patient care.
  • High degree of technical skills.
  • Must be able to function with minimal assistance in performing job activities.
  • Ability to deal with extremely ill patients.
  • Ability to lift and/or move patients.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions, in difficult situations.
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials and life-threatening diseases.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts during Centers hours of operation.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance.

Nice To Haves

  • Supervise Student Technologists assigned to the Center and provide input into the student’s performance to the Clinical Instructor.

Responsibilities

  • Determine appropriate radiological technique and position for patients using immobilization and support devices.
  • Position patient, adjust equipment, and secure and immobilize support devices as needed to tactfully perform procedures.
  • Determine appropriate radiographic technique based on anatomy and patient's condition to obtain quality films for radiologists.
  • Secure history from patient regarding reason for prescribed test and record on appropriate form for the radiologist to review.
  • Assist radiologists with procedures, including advanced and specialty procedures.
  • Use universal precautions in daily performance of procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with established safety standards to protect patients and staff at all times.
  • Maintain exposure badge.
  • Maintain supplies and cleanliness for assigned room on a daily basis.
  • Administer CPR as necessary.
  • Assure accuracy of examination performed and requisition.
  • Familiarize with MSDS information pertaining to chemicals used in the department.
  • Perform clerical duties such as maintaining patient records, daily statistics, answering telephones, scheduling examinations, and giving instructions to patients.
  • Determine appropriate ICD 9 codes for completed procedures.
  • Check film quality and ensure proper and correct labeling.
  • Coordinate the flow of patients into and out of the department.
  • Perform quality control activities, respond to inquiries, coordinate patient flow, and communicate with Radiologists and other personnel.
  • Prepare radiology rooms for procedures and equipment and supplies as required.
  • Report deficient inventory and linen to immediate supervisor.
  • Label radiology images according to department standards and criteria.
  • Prepare contrast media as necessary.
  • Perform daily sensitometry of processors; assist physicist and/or state inspector in performance of annual inspections.
  • Provide direction and instruction to technologists in need of assistance with specific procedures.
  • Participate in problem-solving issues addressing patients, department operations, quality assurance procedures, interdepartmental relationships, and employee morale.
  • Maintain positive patient relations and telephone etiquette.
  • May be required to supervise Student Technologists and provide input into their performance.
  • Maintain current ARRT certification, IDNS licensure, and CPR certification.
