About The Position

The Radiographer is responsible for producing radiographs to customer and PCC specifications for the evaluation of castings. This role involves setting up castings for radiography, operating x-ray machines accurately, and ensuring the quality of the radiographs produced. The position also includes training and mentoring less skilled radiographers, completing logs and records, and adhering to all safety and production standards.

Requirements

  • Radiography skills as demonstrated by competent performance of all duties OR an equivalent combination of classroom training and work experience.
  • High school graduation or GED (necessary for NDT Certification).
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Ability to read, follow, and interpret Technique Cards, Quality Control Manuals, and other technical specifications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Physical ability to perform the essential job functions.

Nice To Haves

  • Radiography Level 1 Courses must be completed (radiation safety, digital method training, etc.).
  • Radiographer Level 1 Certification must be completed for all modalities (Film, CR, DDA).
  • Must re-certify - Level 1 every five years.

Responsibilities

  • Setup castings for radiography according to routing or requests and Technique Cards, including determining part positions, Film/IP requirements, and exposure parameters.
  • Visually inspect castings for contaminants before setup.
  • Operate x-ray machine control panels and equipment to take multiple views of castings, adjusting variables within customer specifications.
  • Monitor, maintain, and generate exposures for System Qualifications on X-ray equipment.
  • Conduct radiographic examinations concurrently and operate all machines.
  • Remove Film/IP from castings for image processing, maintaining proper handling techniques.
  • Check radiographs for artifacts, clarity, coverage, pixel value, and sensitivity after processing, making necessary adjustments and reshooting exposures when needed.
  • Be subject to audits by internal and external auditing groups (PCC NDTE, NADCAP, ISO 9000, etc.).
  • Train, mentor, and assist less skilled Radiographers.
  • Complete logs and records, and document any modifications to Technique Card specifications.
  • Meet all production and quality standards.
  • Adhere to plant and department safety rules, safely operate all equipment and tools, and identify and report safety problems.
  • Perform other tasks as directed and other x-ray department personnel activities.
