The County of San Mateo’s Technology Services Department is seeking a Radio Systems IS Project Manager I to support Radio Services and assigned initiatives within the Network Service Division. The position combines project management, customer relationship management, and administration of the agreements, vendor contracts, and licenses that support these services. Under general supervision, the incumbent plans, coordinates, and manages department-specific technology projects throughout their life cycle, from identifying customer needs and gathering requirements through implementation and close-out. Assignments include small and medium-sized projects appropriate to the IS Project Manager I classification, such as radio equipment upgrades, microwave infrastructure, radio site improvements, network equipment replacements, connectivity upgrades, and related technology or business process improvements. The role works closely with Radio Services and NSD technical specialists, County departments, public safety partners, customers, and vendors to coordinate resources, manage dependencies, track deliverables, address implementation risks, and resolve issues. The incumbent maintains project information in Planview, coordinates Radio Services memoranda of understanding and lease agreements, administers assigned contracts and licenses, and translates MOU deliverables into trackable customer billing routines. The position receives general supervision from assigned supervisory or management personnel and may provide technical and functional direction and training to staff on a project basis. The typical qualifying background is equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in management information systems, computer science, or a related field, plus two years of progressively responsible IT/systems project management experience in the assigned specialty, including infrastructure or application implementation and integration projects. Additional related experience may substitute for education year-for-year, up to four years. A valid California Driver’s License and a valid project management certification such as PMP or PGMP, an equivalent certification, or comprehensive equivalent project management education are required. Radio technology systems and industry-recognized IT certifications are desired. The role works in a standard office environment and requires visiting County sites. Employees may interact with upset staff while interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
