About The Position

A Radio Maintenance Technician II repairs, maintains, installs, fabricates and tests two-way radio communications and related electronic equipment. The work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class may work rotating shifts and may be on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Work is performed in equipment repair shops and garages where such conditions as grease, gas and exhaust fumes and loud noises may be encountered. The work requires moderate physical exertion in lifting and moving radio communications equipment.

Requirements

Associate of arts degree in electronic maintenance with courses in two-way radio maintenance from an accredited college or university.
One year of experience in the installation, repair and maintenance of two-way radio and electronic equipment.
Graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate and three years of experience in the installation, repair and maintenance of two-way radio and electronic equipment.
Valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit.
Knowledge of the repair and maintenance of two-way radio and electronic equipment.
Knowledge of frequency modulation (FM) communication systems, including solid state, transistors and integrated circuits.
Knowledge of Federal Communications Commission regulations as applied to the repair, testing and adjusting of two-way radios.
Knowledge of automotive electrical systems.
Skill in soldering and working with miniaturized components.
Ability to diagnose complex equipment malfunctions and quickly repair radio communications equipment.
Ability to fabricate electronic and test equipment and electronic component parts.
