About The Position

Radiation Therapy Technologist 1 administers prescribed dosages of radiation under medical direction in radiation therapy area. Operates various radio therapeutic equipment producing ionizing radiation for therapeutic purposes. Takes and develops radiographs of patients to determine localization of treatment areas.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Radiology Technology required.
  • Valid Florida license as a Radiation Therapy Technologist and ARRT registry or eligible required.
  • American Heart Association and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers may be required at the unit level upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) with 6 months validity

Responsibilities

  • Takes on-call or works overtime if patient load or departmental needs warrant such action.
  • Treats blood products as requested by transfusion services.
  • Works closely with program director to help in clinical instruction, and evaluates students clinical performance. Maintains a professional attitude at all times and follows all policies and procedures of department and hospital; also the standards of excellence.
  • Attends departmental in-service for C.E.U. update and other meetings as they are scheduled. Keeps work area clean and orderly.
  • Reports immediately, all incidents (patient or technologist related) to supervisor, accompanied by appropriate paperwork.
  • Assists appropriate personnel in maintaining patient protocols. Schedules patients for simulation and treatment to help ensure and maintain organized flow of patients. Assists other staff personnel when requested.
  • Assists in the evaluation of students.
  • Participates in treatment planning, setup and treatment of patients. Maintains a sympathetic attitude with patients and their families. Assumes responsibility for stocking his/her treatment rooms with needed supplies.
  • Aids physicians and residents in all setups done in all treatment or simulation rooms.
  • Assumes responsibility for loading, processing and duplicating all films; also marking and filing all patient films. Performs daily quality assurance measurements on all therapeutic machines, including warm-up and shutdown procedures.
  • Actively participates in patient care conferences, morning conference and weekly chart rounds. Maintains accurate treatment records including weekly check films, dose computations and treatment summaries.
  • Observes symptoms and reactions of patients and takes appropriate action. Assists other technologists and departmental staff in the completion of work. Possesses a knowledge of the mechanical and electronic equipment he/she uses for safe operation.
  • Maintains flexibility and assumes all other additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisor. Participates in special duties or procedures as assigned by Chief Technologist. Renders emergency procedures and maintains safety standards particular to the age-specific needs of the patient.
  • Maintains all safety precautions while treating. Also, performs appropriate to pediatric patients such as securing patient to the table, as well as the use of a pulse oximeter. Follows proper safety procedures at all times. Possesses and utilizes the ability to communicate effectively with patient and family.
  • Delivers appropriate treatment as to the patients age-specific needs and behavior. Possesses and maintains understanding of the principles of growth and development. Assesses data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the information needed to identify the patients requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs.
  • Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
