About The Position

Under the direction of physicians and physicists, assists in planning, setting up, and delivering therapeutic doses of radiation to the minimum adequate volume of tissue while preserving normal tissue as much as possible. The position is in the Radiation Technology Department at Lipson Cancer Institute - Linden Oaks in Rochester, New York. The schedule consists of 8-hour shifts, either 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. After six months of employment, the employee joins the weekend and call rotation approximately every seven weeks.

Requirements

Graduate of a two-year Radiation Therapist Program.
New graduates must provide an official transcript from an accredited school or a letter emailed directly from the school registrar confirming program completion upon graduation; primary-source education verification is required within 90 days of graduation.
NYS licensure as a Radiation Therapist, or an NYS permit with licensure obtained within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

Perform treatment simulations under the direction of the Radiation Oncologist.
Fabricate immobilization devices and custom shielding as needed.
Deliver therapeutic radiation doses according to prescriptions written by the Radiation Oncologist.
Take and label port films and ensure they are checked appropriately.
Under the direction of the medical physicist, ensure quality control procedures are performed on equipment.
Maintain treatment records, including dose additions, port-film documentation, prescription adjustments, diagrams, blocking, and landmarks.
Schedule patient appointments.
Maintain daily log sheets documenting inpatients, finishes, new courses, new patients, electron patients, and non-malignant cases.
Maintain records needed for department statistics.
Participate in clinical instruction of Radiation Therapy students.
Perform other duties as assigned.
