About The Position

This role coordinates the transition of treatment planning information between the clinical area and physics. The Radiation Therapy Tech-Senior works closely with physicians and dosimetry staff to initiate new treatment plans, assists dosimetrists with treatment planning, and ensures daily quality checks are completed on all therapy equipment as directed by physics staff. Additionally, this position ensures all quality checks are completed on the treatment chart before treatment initiation. The Senior Tech mentors and provides technical direction to the radiation therapist staff and students, and assures that all policies and procedures are followed by the radiation therapist team. This role also facilitates communication between physicians and the therapist team and provides therapy support to treatment machines as needed by fulfilling the day-to-day delivery of treatment plans to patients as stated in the prescription. The Senior Tech works with the Radiation Therapist Lead in facilitating weekly team meetings to communicate information to the radiation therapist team.

Requirements

Graduate of 2 yr. Radiation Therapist Program.
Minimum of five years of experience as a radiation therapist
NYS Licensure as Radiation Therapist

Responsibilities

Coordinates flow of Dosimetry work from start (simulation) to plan completion.
Reviews daily simulation schedule and transition information to physics.
Complete point calculations for emergent treatments and those directed from dosimetry staff.
Works with dosimetry staff daily to assure timely arrival of all upcoming boost plans to the treatment machine.
Assist dosimetrist in obtaining prescriptions from physicians for treatment plans.
Reviews charts to check with radiation prescriptions are being carried out properly, documentation correct, and patient consents are documented.
Mentors and gives technical direction to the radiation therapist team and the radiation therapist students.
Assures that all policies and procedures are being followed by the radiation therapist team.
Facilitates communication between physician and therapist team as needed.
Provides therapy support to treatment machines as needed by fulfilling day to day delivery of treatment plan to patients as stated in prescription.
Works with Radiation Therapist Lead in facilitating weekly team meetings to communicate information to the radiation therapist team.
