About The Position

This position is responsible for planning treatment techniques that deliver a prescribed dosage of radiation. The Dosimetrist obtains and/or supervises the obtaining of patient data for taking patient contours, localization files, CT scans, and port films. They coordinate simulations with tumor localization procedures, enter dosage calculations in patients’ radiation therapy chart, and supervise therapists in the implementation of treatment plans. The role also involves completing and/or assisting in planning and building beam modifying devices, obtaining localization films for intracavity insertions, calculating isodose distributions, and preparing sources for loading. Additionally, the Dosimetrist assists in other brachytherapy procedures, is responsible for radiation room surveys of patients having intracavity or interstitial procedures, and assists with maintaining radioactive sources. They provide technical assistance to the Radiation Physicist.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and three years of dosimetry experience under the supervision of a dosimetrist, medical physicist or radiation oncologist or equivalency.
  • Credentialed as a Certified Dosimetrist by the American Association of Medical Dosimetry.
