About The Position

The Radiation Medicine Program (RMP) is committed to personalized cancer care in order to improve patient experience and outcomes. This requires innovation that will drive major changes in practice and the way we deliver care. As an integral member of the Radiation Medicine Program (RMP) Radiation Therapy (RT) Leadership Team, the RT Clinical Educator will utilize relevant educational theories and demonstrate high standards of clinical practice knowledge. This role will facilitate the optimal delivery of the departmental RT Education Program within RMP, which provides and facilitates clinical training and education initiatives for qualified radiation therapists and undergraduate students in the Medical Radiation Sciences Program at the University of Toronto. The educator will develop, design, coordinate, and deliver training and education programs related to the development, evaluation, and implementation of new techniques/equipment and new treatment modalities, supporting the care mandate of RMP. They will maintain current awareness of new developments in radiation therapy to improve knowledge and enhance care quality, ensuring the continuing education and ongoing professional and personal skills development of RT staff, RMP learners, and themselves. This includes assessing and identifying continuing education needs. The role also involves assessing, developing, implementing, and evaluating patient education programs, including learning resources, across the organization, utilizing research data to advocate for excellent and holistic care. The educator will participate in quality programs and initiatives of RMP, practicing and ensuring Continuous Quality Improvement, and contribute to staff recruitment, selection, and retention strategies. They will act as a leader/role model and a resource, performing other duties consistent with the job classification as required.

Requirements

  • BSc in Radiation Therapy
  • Completion of a recognized Master's degree program in Science or Education
  • 5 years' experience in area of practice
  • Previous leadership experience
  • Previous experience with design of education courses
  • Teaching/coaching experience
  • Hold, or be eligible to obtain, certification with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO)
  • Be a member of, or eligible for membership in, the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT)
  • All candidates must be able to function with proficiency in English
  • Excellent teaching skills required

  • Demonstrated expertise in adult education required

  • Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (W.H.M.I.S.) required
  • Computer literacy required
  • Ability to be flexible in dealing with all levels of staff within the organization
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance with UHN standards

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes relevant educational theories and demonstrates high standards of clinical practice knowledge

  • Maintains current awareness of new development in the field of radiation therapy to improve level/scope of knowledge and to enhance the quality of care provided, in order to ensure the continuing education and on-going professional and personal skills development of RT staff, RMP learners and self, including assessing and identifying continuing education needs of RT staff and RMP learners.
  • Assesses, develops, implements and evaluates patient education programs, including learning resources, across the organization.
  • Utilizes research data in this process to advocate for excellent and holistic care for patients and families in all levels of the health care system.
  • Participates in quality programs and initiatives of RMP while practicing and ensuring Continuous Quality Improvement
  • Contributes to the recruitment and selection of staff and staff retention strategies
  • Acts as a leader/role model, and a resource performing other duties consistent with the job classification as required
