The Radiation Therapist is responsible for delivering and recording radiation therapy treatments under the direction of a Radiation Oncologist. This role involves close collaboration with the medical team to review images and port films for patient setups, treatment device selection, and verification. The therapist will perform daily quality assurance (QA) on equipment, troubleshoot malfunctions, and initiate corrective measures. They will also enter and maintain patient treatment parameters in electronic medical records, manage patient appointment schedules, and ensure proper charge capture. Additionally, the position includes performing conventional and computed tomography (CT) simulation, cutting blocks, making custom immobilizations, and completing monitor unit (MU) calculations in the absence of a Dosimetrist or Physicist. The role also requires performing various patient positioning and transporting duties, which involve lifting and pushing/pulling with proper technique, and demonstrating knowledge of age-specific care needs.
